In films, any bomb-disarming scene has a moment when the hero(s) aren't sure which wire to cut to disarm it. It always gets narrowed down to two wires. The two wires are always the red wire and the blue wire. No one knows why. I suspect some form of government agency is responsible.

Unfortunately for any bystanders, a bomb with any degree of sophistication is usually just a tad more complicated than that. Heh!
We found one in Vietnam made from a 155 artillery round that was sensitive to vibration, as well as having a pressure detonator. Unfortunately for the bomb disposal guy who "disarmed" it, the bomb also had a radio detonation capability. :(
