I got to page 6 of General topics and didn't see one on the 2006 World Cup (soccer/football) so I figured I'd try to make one more easily accessible for fans to discuss whom they think will do well/win the thing... their favorite players/sides etc.

So consider this a general World Cup 2006 thread and for gosh sakes, KEEP IT NEAR THE FRONT/TOP!

hehe

Oh, don't forget to vote.

I voted for Italy... I'm salivating over this side Lippi COULD (and had better) put on the pitch:

G: Buffon
D: Zambrotta, Nesta, Cannavaro, Grosso
M: Camoranesi, Pirlo, Totti, Gattuso
F: Gilardino, Toni

Well, the brain says that Brazil has got a very good chance of taking it, but I'm hoping Germany might do well nonetheless.

All depends on whether the young guys can get that confidence in the first few matches. If they can do that, they might have a chance, because they do have some skill.

On paper, Brazil has probably the strongest squad. Just throwing around names off the top of my head like Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Robinho, Adriano, Julio Baptista, Kaka, Juninho, Emerson, Ze Roberto...

The game isn't played on paper, though.

I think that the Netherlands might actually surprise some people this time round (positively), because they're bound to stop underachieving sometime, and they have a very young, talented squad.

Brazil - They are awesome and I am half Brazillian. I really have nothing more to add as I am from the US and only watch the World Cup and nothing leading up to it (except for when a game is on at the local Irish Pub).
I really do enjoy watching the world cup though.
