Humans in England have been traced (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051214/ap_on_sc/europe_early_humans) back 700,000 years.

Stringer said now scientists can search for human remains, and perhaps find humans arrived in the region even earlier than 700,000 years ago.

"We have a whole new area of research opening up to us," he said.

Prof. Jim Rose of the University of London, another researcher involved in the study, said that 700,000 years ago, England was still connected the European mainland and enjoyed relatively short periods of balmy weather between the time that massive glaciers swept through the area, freezing and reforming the landscapes.

During such thaws, he said, early humans would have been able to migrate to England from the Mediterranean and enjoy mild winters, flat landscapes and major rivers.

_early_ humans - hominids, surely? not homo sapiens, anyway!

Did they have teeth back then? I thought it was due to the viking invasions they got teeth. I could be wrong. But the real question is. Why are British teeth so screwed up? I have never seen a population with such bad teeth.

I dunno, I was in Japan last year, and some folks...whoah.

Course, I'm American and big percentage of us are obese to the point where we might want to use our teeth a little less...

I'm pretty sure that it's because there are two reason's to get braces.
One, to straighten out teeth so that they look pretty.
Two, crowded teeth can put pressure on each other and damage health in innumberable ways. Teething babies suffer rashes, fevers, stuffy noses etc, and dozens of medical disorders are diagnosed by dentists. Some of them can be prevented by applying braces to teeth that might even look fine, but aren't.

Brits tend not to go in for cosmetic dentistry as much. It's been a while since I lived there, but I think that cosmetic stuff isn't covered as much as medical necessities are. So you'd probably get braces for free if you needed them for medical reasons, but not if you just wanted to have a nice smile.

400 units a sissy weekend. Your talking out of your ass mate... 400 units is enough for 6months worth of alcohol.. i seriously doubt you drink 400 units in one weekend... That *would* destroy your liver... Unless you are all like George Best (R.I.P.) Who really could pack away 400 units a weekend (but look where he ended up)....

BTW, i love guiness. I can neck it in the rather slow time of 4.5 seconds (but its the fastest ive knoiwn anyone to do it cornwall) HOWEVER i understand its a pint to savour and i only ever have mine importted from the brewery in Ireland... (the english stuff is shite)
