Holiday showdown: PSP vs DS

Okay, here's what I got. I've heared rumors from both sides of the argument (which seems eerily familiar to that whole PS2 vs XBOX debate a few years ago) about these hanheld systems:
DS: http://wirelessdigest.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/nintendo_ds.jpg
PSP: http://www.pspupdates.com/uploaded_images/psp_black-754762.jpg
As you may know, the PSP sells for around 250$ and the DS about 125$
The PSP is a system that has been long awaited, with great anticipation. However, many people were dissapointed due to one major flaw: No dual joy stick system! This make FPS much harder, and less enjoyable. The system compensates greatly however, with stunning graphics, ability to play high-quality movies, music and PS2 style games.
The DS is what some crtitcs have claimed as "Nintendo's rushed development, to make the holiday season." Around 1/2 the price, to 100$ less than the PSP, the system works surprisingly well. It's strong point is its dual screen, touch abilities, brining a whole new level of interactivness to games. However, the graphics appear N64ish, and lack detail.
Both systems are good, but it seems the PSP is much better overall. The DS may have huge titles such as Mariokart, Donkeykong, and Animal crossing on its side, but the graphics of the PSP are simply far too great. Despite this, the DS fires back with an online, Wi-fi capability, that works surprisingly well, for a handheld gaming system. Also, the built in microphone is awsome!! And the PSP, bigger screen, better graphics, color sound, and probably even apperance.
In my mind the DS has better games. I love Animal crossing, Nintendogs, Goldeneye: rouge agent, prince of persia and the entire mario series. The PSP seems weak, in the popular titles.
I give the PSP 9.1/10 (for the lack of that damned second analog control!!!) and the DS 8.4/10
What do you think? PSP or DS?
They're both completely gay.
It's all about Computer Gaming. :D

I don't like the Nintendo not because it's a bad system but because they don't have games I want to play. I like the PS because it has games I want to play.
Having said that, I think that Nintendo is so entrenched in the hand held world that it's almost gaurenteed to win, plus it's cheaper which will resonate with parents that don't know any of the other differences.
$250 is too much for a handheld.

I prefer the DS. The PSP is too expensive, has too much crap on it (I'm going to buy a game system for GAMES, not for music or movies), and has absolutely no interesting exclusive titles.
Games make the system. There have been past examples of more advanced competitors to Nintendo's handhelds, such as the Sega Genesis; they were summarily crushed, because Nintendo's games and equipment are simply much better quality.
The DS has Advance Wars, multiplayer Animal Crossing, is going to get Europa Universalis, and with its unique capabilities, has almost unlimited expansion options. The PSP has its extra features, dull games, and nothing else.
Which console has the lawyer game and the surgery game? That's right, the DS. The PSP can't boast that.

Exactly. 250$ is way too much for a handheld. Maybe even 200$ would be pushing it...

I agree. I don;t really watch that many movies, and I have an mp3, so I wouldn't need my handheld to play music. And, once again, the DS is much cheaper!!

If I was most concerned with awesome graphics I would stay home and play my Xbox. As it is I'll take the DS's slightly worse graphics than pay $250 for something that's reall only useful on long car rides or airline trips. A DS is still 3d for cryn' out loud. I remember the original gameboy (NOT the color one, the one that was as big as a tape recorder) so I think it's just freakn' amazing :p

DS FTW.
The PSP is pretty much the next GBA, Ninendo will release a competitor at some point (at least, that's what they say) the DS is new and fun.
Plus I don't give a toss for graphics, the DS does what it needs to, anything more than it has is gravy.
DS:
advantages:
gameplay-Face it, you can dumb down the graphics of PSP games and they'll probably work for the DS, unless they're too big. You can't always port DS games to the PSP. Why?
1. two screens. It'll be a bit too hard to do.
2. Touch screen. The nub won't be a good replacement.
3. sound recorder thing. Can the PSP hear? I don't think so. Can the DS? Hell yeah.
durability-Face it. You can probably break the PSP with one hand. The PSP can screw up. It's still a first-year Sony system. It will most likely break. It's Sony's curse. The DS is far more durable. I think that someone once did a test where they put a DS in a toilet(fully submerged) and it still played fine. It's only kryptonite is Mr. Hammer.
# of playable games-it can play EVERY GBA game. Every one of them.
games-So far, the PSP has been very lackluster in terms of games. It's only real killer-apps are GTA and Lumines. What about Death Jr.? Horrible, horrible reviews. Meanwhile, The DS has:
Super Mario 64 DS-self explanitory
Wario Ware-addictive
Meteos-its Tetris
Advance Wars-still as great as ever
Castlevania-2d at its best
Mario Kart-highly original and very addictive
Not to mention GBA classics, like
Metroid Fusion
Metroid: Zero Mission
all four Mario advance games
Mario Kart
etc.
battery life-lasts longer
PSP:
advantages:
graphics-near-PS2 quality
disc space-more bytes
functionality-can play movies and music
the discs make great frisbees-I'm serious
That said, my favorite is the DS. It's more fun, although tossing UMD discs is a hobby of mine.

Yea, from what i've heard, I have to get a DS now. Nintendo's been in the handheld game for a long time now, ever since the original GB to the SP. I have to admit though, when it comes to console, that gamecube is a piece of crap. The PS2 is much better. Oh, BTW, where's the PSP supporters?????

ah the thing is, the graphics of the PSP may be great, but the gameplay has always lied with nintendo. and when i'm out & about (why you have a portable gaming device surely) i want playability and something that will keep me amused for a good time - not just something i can gawp at the pretty graphics for 10 seconds at.
DS is also cheaper.
plus i hate sony and to get a PSP means all sorts of shitty file format problems if you wanna play music/watch movies on it (so i hear - especially for me when i exclusively use WMA/V and DivX)
i understand both have wi-fi and the ability to surf the net on, which is cool.
the saving grace of the PSP is that it plays movies. but you could spend a lot less on a portable DVD player, or a dedicated personal media player (like the creative Zen Vision)... or alternatively i'll just stick to lugging my laptop around and pwning with my geforce6800 and 2ghz PentiumM :D )

I would rather have a PSP because when I'm walking about I don't want to look like some stingy git too cheap ass to spend 100 of your USD also PSP is allot better for porn on the move (through why I suggest that I have no idea;) )
I am considering getting DS if I have some cash left over for Nintendogs but PSP comes first because all the cool people have one  (I have one)

Are you kidding me? "all the cool people have one?"
The Yu-gi-oh convention in our city had out of the 500 nerds there, 476 had PSP.
