Sky Angel

There is a satellite broadcasting company here in America besides DirecTV and Dish Network. It's name is Sky Angel, if you watch the 700 Club at 11pm (I flip buy it) you can see them promoting it there during commerical (mind you it may be abc family now but it was the Family Channel at one time which was alot more Christian back cuz it was owned by Pat).

So they claim to be a the Christian satellite television provider, though you can just consider it the DISH Network Christian Package because they really just piggyback off DISH Network and block out all the other channels.

http://www.skyangel.com

And here's there programming line-up
http://www.skyangel.com/Programming/Index.asp?IdS=001D2C-29E22D0&Reference=ChannelLineup&~=

As you can see it's just Christian channels and two of their own channels, Angel One and Two.

And FOX News is the only news channel...

Fear of a liberal bias media, I suppose? ;)

All I can I say if I was forced to watch....

I'd scream.

I mean there's no comedy....
Cannot think of a name

Isn't Sky the name of the satalite network that News Copr owns that opperates in Europe? And owns the Dish Network?

EDIT: Nope, I'm wrong. Dish is owned by EchoStar which is owned by Comcast.

Though, I'll say this-christians want a satelitte provider that just gives them the 'good news' then that's fantastic. More power to 'em. They can watch that and I can watch what I want and we don't have to bother each other.

The great thing about satellite is that you DON'T have to buy it if you don't like it.....

And teh great thing about over-the-airwaves TV is you can always turn it off and not feel like you're wasting money. :-D

So? If someone wants to buy a Christian satellite network, let 'em. If they want to buy a Buddhist satellite network, let 'em. If they want to buy a sandwich-based satellite network, let 'em. No one's forcing you to buy or watch anything.

Thanks for the heads-up. Not procuring the services of DirecTV is now on my to-do list.:D

How dull. I can understand wanting a little Christian programming but this is just going too far.

There actually are Christian comedians, and they are pretty funny sometimes, they just don't make jokes about drugs, race, or sex.

anyway, there is a Christian station here (about 5 really, but I only watch the one) I think if someone feels that they "need" a Christain satellite service then they should be able to buy it. I would much rather not pay for it, and watch the Christian channels I have, and also be able to watch Spike, and Sci-Fi and then just turn on my trusty V-chip if I need to protect my kids (although they never watch TV without me, and they are pretty good at making thier own choices so far.)

Not to get too far off topic, but what annoys me is Clean Flicks (https://www.cleanflicks.com/index.html?affid=49486)
basically they take regular movies and edit out what they feel is objectionable to Christians. I think it's crap (and maybe it's because I am a movie freak, or maybe because my husband is an actor) but if you don't think a movie is "appropriate" for you then maybe just not watch it at all. If someone edited a movie that I spent time making perfect because they didn't think that everything I put in it was "needed" then I would sue.

so anyway, if you don't like it as is then don't watch it. If there is a way for "those people" to watch TV without screwing with my TV then I think it's a good thing.

oh, gotcha. On the Christian channel I watch they have a show that is very similar to the old (not that old I guess) "Evening at the improv", it's pretty good.

As far as a comedy channel, Comedy Central used to be funny when it first started, but now it's 90% stupid (but I suppose I prefer stand-up comedy to SNL movies)

Yeah ... but sometimes they run good movies I just tend to not like their sponsored stuff they used to have a lot better standup.

But I dont know the exact programming for this new service so I dont know which stations they actualy carrie and the comedy content of them

As a writer, that annoys me as well, because it's the same as if some company were to take a book I wrote, reproduce it without the naughty words I use (and you can imagine they pop up now and again based on my posts :D ), and then sold it, presumably without remunerating me. And even if they were to pay me, I would object because they wouldn't be selling my art--they'd be selling their version of my art. but keeping my name on it.

Without the daily show, I'm nothing... well ok I haven't lately but still.

It is really dull since most of it seems to be preaching services mostly.

exactly. My husband has been in 2 movies that aren't exactly what I would call "family movies" and I saw how much work went into them. I didn't do much (but eat all the food from craft service and bother the producer and casting director) but if someone changed something in those movies I would be pissed.

One was a movie about a real life serial killer, one a dark comedy with multiple plot twists and murders, and he starts filming one in January where he plays a serial killer. ;) My kids are not going to be allowed to watch any of them :(

And if you're an actor you have even less control. It's bad enough when you're a novelist who doesn't have script control and you have to watch some filmmaker butcher your child (CToaN is going to kill me for this :D ), though I'd love to have that heartache. To have someone completely unrelated to the entire creative process do that to your work--I'd want to get violent.

Dude...(IwillnothijackIwillnothijackIwillnothijack...) Actually, you should see what I'm doing to Plague Dogs...but that's another story...

I agree wholeheartedly with these sentiments (suprise!).

The arguement for was that films are edited for television and other broadcasts all the time. What is not as widely known is that the filmmakers are actually involved in that process and is part of thier agreement. The ability to alter the films without the input of the filmmakers was a little token Bush threw his base when making the new copywright laws and is total bullshit.

What it amounts to is the pre-code Catholic League editing of movies before they where released to the public that led to the introduction of the Hayes Code as a comprimise to protect filmmakers rights (though if I recall correctly, the Catholic Leagues actions where deemed illegal under the First Amendment, so I don't know under what loophole people are allowed to do that now. Especially since the editors do not seem to be under any obligation to let the audience know that the material has been edited.)

It's like saying, "I like the Mona Lisa, but we should be able to see her teeth." and then making it that way like that's the way it is...

Don't worry about hijacking--that other conversation wasn't going anywhere anyway.

I was half-joking when I mentioned you--I know that film and literature are two different animals and that the two don't often translate well into each other. And I figured we'd agree on the difference between what a director does in interpreting a novelist's work and what these clowns are doing.

Maybe, but with a program package that small and bland, I dobut it.
