That place you live, do you own it, rent it, or what?

I ama squatter. Whenever the family comes back and tries to open the door with their keys, I superheat the doorknob using coat hangers rigged up to the oven element.

I'd put in a poll option for 'own outright' and 'have a mortgage'...because the one means that yes, you really own it, and the second means that one day you might.

I guess a college dorm room would be considered renting, wouldn't it?

House. Own.

Well technically my dad owns it. And even more technically my dad owns about the first two floors or so due to the whole mortgage malarky.

Damn, Sin beat me to the punch :p

Officially, I live with my mother free. However, I spend most of my time living at my boyfriend's. In terms of rent or whatever, it's free, but I do buy most of the food and whatnot.

Yes of course. Although I feel like I probably missed something even with my 10 options.

This poll sure is taking a while...

Sorry, my kid distracted me.

Yes, I supposed maybe I should've allowed for more than one option. College dorms aren't often your perminant residence, though.

I own. And its been the single best investment I've made so far.
Its worth twice what I paid 4 years ago and I'm considering cashing in on that now.

I am a renter, I haven't found a house yet that I like enough to buy. Up until recently we have been transfered around a lot so it didn't make much sense to buy. I still have a while before I am financially where I want to be to buy a house, so I am looking around to try to figure out what is important to me. ;)

I'm renting a place with my gf. It's a decent-sized little place for two people and it's only $500 a month =) Phenomenal price compared to where I used to live, and I'm under the impression it's pretty good for around here too.

Yeah, it takes a while to figure out what you really want... and even at that, I wish I'd known more when we bought this house... from a couple idiots in bankruptcy who'd managed to get three mortgages on the house in the five years they owned it, and ended up getting something like $3000.00 by the time all three were paid off even though the house nearly doubled in price from when they bought it. Just because when they couldn't pay the mortgages, they tried to hide instead of talking to them, so they had huge extras to pay the companies to pay off the mortgages. And that's not to mention their credit cards... oi.

Lesson: Don't buy from people in bankruptcy. Let the bank foreclose, and THEN buy it.

I live with my parents during holidays but in term time I live in my room at college (a.k.a. Hogwarts, or at least parts of it), which I pretty much consider my real home now.
