I just had an exceptionally long converasation with a Muslim* about the pertition that you may have seen me advocating, regarding religious freedom in Saudi Arabia. He refused to sign and then he argued that Islam actually justifies the killing of those who convert from Islam to another religion and that he actually supported that belief. Please can some Muslims out their tell me that that is not the case for the majority of Muslims. I dont think the majority of Muslims agree with the Saudi Arabian line on Apostphy. I would like confirmation on this please.

*I say Muslim but the lifestyle he described to me that he had did not sound at all Muslim

I'm not of the Islamic faith, but my best friend is and I know that her and her other Muslim friends do not hold those messed up beliefs. They sincerely believe that Islam is a religion of peace being hijacked by a bunch of lunatic fundamentalists.

That is, I believe, what the Koran teaches, and fortunately, not what most Muslims believe.

Much like the Amish believe everyone who's not Amish should be avoided, and those who convert from Amish to not Amish should be shunned, and it's wrong to ever talk to them again, or even acknowledge their existance. But the rest of christendom doens't believe that. Just the one little section of people who take one idea to an extreme.

Like Christianity, there is a considerable amount of heterodoxy in Islam.

You're going to find a lot of Muslims with differing beliefs, just as you are going to find Christians with differing beliefs.

Hard to say what the majority belief for most Muslims might be, aside from the five pillars of faith.

My understanding is that's the literal belief, but open to interpretation.

Similar situation to God saying it's cool for Joshua's army to commit ethnic cleansing - most religions have embarrassing sidenotes, as far as I know.
