I lent a game to someone some time ago...and the SOB returned it scratched up and useless. And it twas my favorite game too...*sniff*.

So I was wondering, do you guys know any methods for repairing CDs and disks. I would be VERY appriciative.

Thanks in advance.

I hear toothpaste can do the trick. Otherwise, blow on it, rub it down, and pray to the Gods of Consumerism. Maybe sacrifice a floppy diskette to appease them.

I saw a commercial for the Skip Doctor or something. Says it's supposed to fix scratched CDs. Not sure if it actually works.

There're CD repair kids you can get. The ones that work best tend to either have something to fill in scratches, or just something to polish off a small layer of the surface. Even these won't work if scratching is too deep, or if it's on the top of the disk and got into the actual metal data disk instead of just the plastic. Good luck.

Gah. I TRIED that already, I even exorcised it! The demons are deep within this PS2 game...

Trust me, I've seen ALOT worse scratches on a disk. My Brood War disk, that's like 5 years old, is COVERED in 'em. This thing is maybe two years old, and has maybe two scratches.

Maybe PS2 games are just delicate...

firs "clean" it with 100% grade alcohol... or 70% ...5-10 drops
..try the CD.
If still not working..

"polish" it with Brasso ... 3-5 drops

always radial motion, etc

I can find Brasso at a hardware store right?

Well, PS2 games are DVD-ROMs rather than CD-ROMs. I wonder if that has anything to do with it.

Simple procedure:

Step 1: Put CD in Toaster
Step 2: Put Toaster in Microwave
Step 3: Turn Microwave on
Step 4: Make a Sandwich
Step 5: Take 2 asprin
Step 6: Feel better in the morning

not only your CD-ROM will last much longer...but your CD-drive is spared too...

all the data on the disk is contained on a foil sandwitched between a thick layer (the bottom) and a thin layer (the top) of plastic.

Hold the disk up to a good light and look to see if you can see any spot where the foil has been scratched off, it would be quite distinct. If it has you have a nice little coster as no amount of polishing will bring back the data. other wise I have hear that a little tooth paste should work quite well, just do not for the love of your deity use any of the whiting tooth pastes as they contain really nasty abracives and will only make it worse! stick to a white basic paste of a more reputable brand as they will more likely use better QC measures on there partical sizes.

Good luck

How about making the idiot who wrecked it buy you a new one?

It's a relatively old game, and people would probably not be able to find it.

And if it's really old then maybe The Underdogs (http://www.the-underdogs.org/).

Or, if it's installed, just use a No-CD crack.
