Anyone else played this PS2 game?

It pwns.

I got stuck on some of the gladiatorial combat at first, but I restarted from the beginning and now that I've got the hang of it, I'm really enjoying the game.

I've not played a game with violence and gore that even compares to this game...

It's like Mortal Kombat meets Metal Gear Solid meets Gladiator.

Mortal Metal Gladiator?

No, I haven't seen the game. You got screenshots and the like?

It's a terrible game that anally rapes Roman history.

Don't candy-coat it. Tell us what you really think. ;)

It's not supposed to be historically accurate. Everything from the assassination of Caesar (the beginning of the game) is 100% fiction.

Ever heard the term "historical fiction"? Generally, it's applied to novels that appropriately fit a historical time period, despite the storyline being entirely fictional. In this case, it applies to a game.

If you understand that the game is historical fiction and get over that and judge the game for it's (oh, I don't know...let's see) gameplay (that seems like a good thing to judge a game for) and creative (although not historically accurate, not like it pretends it is) storyline, I think you might enjoy it...especially if you're a fan of blood, gore, and violence (Tarentino style).

I can't blame 'em; who doesn't want to anally rape Roman history?

I said it's a terrible game that rapes Roman history; I didn't say it's a terrible game *because* it rapes Roman history. It's a terrible game for plenty of other reasons too numerous to list here. Some of its worst offenses are horrible stealth gameplay, borderline retarded AI, and painfully boring, repetitive combat.

Horrible stealth gameplay and borderline retarded AI is the same complaint. And yes, that's one of the weakpoints of the game.

I don't really find the combat boring or repetitive. The boss fights could be better...but aside from that, I think it's quite a good mix.

The one thing I don't like is that I find the gladiatorial combat SIGNIFICANTLY more difficult than the stealth missions as Octavianus (who has a lame name with one too many syllables). If they would've got with the Metal Gear Solid people to do the stealth aspects and spent a little bit more time on boss fights, the game would be more than just good. It'd simply be a must have.

No, I found the AI to be retarded in both the stealth and coliseum segments, so they aren't the same complaint.

Those of us who prefer to stare at it indignantly, wishing we could have strangled each Roman individualy with our own hands.
