Aphex Twin -- Any reason to this madness?

Specifically, I'm talking about the Aphex Twin album, "Drukqs"

Now, I assume that it's supposed to be simply a weird spelling of "drugs." I mean, the whole album is pretty trippy...

But...

All the song titles are weird too...

Like Ziggomatic V17, Avril 14th, Bbydhyonchord, Hy a Scullyas Lyf a Dhagrow, etc. etc.

Has anyone figured any sort of logic at all behind all this, or is it just 100% completely random?

Um ... this has happened before. Back in the 60s there was a group who created a song while on drugs which didn't make any sense either: In A Godda Da Vida. :D

It's Aphex Twin... Look at his album covers and come back and ask us for a logical theory behind the madness.

Uh...this isn't one song. It's like, an entire album. That amount of craziness involved hear seems like something planned out.

And Kryozerkia, album covers usually have very little to do with the actual music...especially when we're talking about electronica...

Although, the Aphex Twin music videos are...interesting...to say the least.

Uh ... then they were on drugs for the taping sessions for the entire album? :D

Hell, if you want some drug induced/inspired music, you guys should sample some Shpongle.

How about someone be creative and give me an example of good music that didn't involve drugs.

...that way, it's actually a challenge.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, shurely? And wasn't it just an accidental corruption of the words In The Garden Of Eden?

I heart Aphex Twin... although that woman with a man's face thing they keep using scares the shit out of me.

Ever see their video for "Come to Daddy"? What the fuck!!

I'm almost certain he's Irish.
And a quick search on Wiki says he was indeed born in Ireland.

bum. there goes that idea.

well, those songs still look pretty welsh anyway

he has songs like 54 Cymru Beats, so there's defininatley a welsh connection there

James began taking apart electronics gear as a teenager growing up in Cornwall, England

edit: googling for 'aphex twin bio'... I dunno if I'd trust that, Aphex Twin is notorious for being a prolific liar about pretty much everything.

Also, Eut, check out the music video for "Come to Daddy", watch you don't get a heart attack though ;)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornish_language

He's from Cornwall, and some of the titles are in the Cornish language. Translations include "Jynweythek [Ylow]" for "Electronic Machine [Music]", "Vordhosbn" would mean "Sailboat", and "Cymru" would mean "Wales". Comically, "hy a Scullyas lyf a dhagrow" would roughly translate as "She wasted my pint". Various numbers found in words may actually represent archaic letters.
