Oh, you're gonna get it...I don't believe in idealizing or becoming obsessed with celebs, but you shouldn't talk about anyone's (well, maybe Hitler, Stalin etc. are exceptions) in such a nonchalant way.

I remember him the best in one of his movies, he is driving a school bus, they get stuck in the mud down south, he talks the KKK into helping him get out.

The funniest comedian ever, close 2nd is Red Foxx.

I have an excuse, I was 6, or somewhere around there. At that age I was also still setting the house plants on fire, because that was "edgey" back then.
The coaches, however, are indeed the saddest people I have ever seen. The worst one was that creepy guy whose kid had left T-Ball several years ago, but he stuck around to stare and yell at kids as they ran in circles.

Pryor made millions laugh.

If nothing else, he should be thanked for bringing even a fleeting moment of laughter into a dank, dreary life, filled with people like you who are incapable of contributing anything positive to anything else.

What the hell have you done?

The difference between Pryor, and you....is that Richard Pryor will be long remembered fondly, and you...will be appropriately forgotten.
...and when that day comes, its good riddance to bad rubbish.

I know you like this nose in the air prick routine that you do here, but I don't think it's too much to ask to let somethings be. It starts to blur the line between the prick routine and actually just being a prick.

It's a routine? Well, I'm always the last one to know.

And, yes, he's still a mere celebrity. When Tom Cruise dies, I'm sure we'll have a thread about that too and some people will be all "omg, but he made Top Gun and was this really 'important' scientologist and, like, really, really famous for suing people who said he's gay, respect him, dammit!!!" and I'll just say he's a celebrity, too. Some people being fond of him won't make his death any more interesting or worthy of lamentation or make him important.

Jerry Seinfeld hasn't been a comedian in ten years. Maybe longer. :(

Comedians are semi-celebrities. Kind of like athletes. Sometimes other celebrities hang out with them. You know, if other real celebrities aren't around. But comedians haven't had their souls crushed out of them by media agents yet. So they can't remain in the company of celebrities for long or the celebrities will pounce and devour their quivering souls. Like poor Eddie Murphy. :(

Well, as much as I admired the absolute hell out of Richard Pryor, who I saw as second to none in "funny", I had to go and click "News Home" to find out that two of my personal heroes died today.

Pryor, and apparently so did Sen. Eugene McCarthy (you right wing neocons won't care).

*SIGH*

Sad day. Sad indeed. :(

I voted for Eugene McCarthy -- my first election. I couldn't stand it when he lost.

Youre an asshole.

-and-

I only hope its sooner than later.
One less asshole to share oxygen with.

Get a sense of perspective man. Did Pryor make people laugh? Oh yeah, you and me and a lot of other people. Does that mean something to you? Obviously. But is that a good reason to get nasty with somebody who doesn't share your taste and doesn't feel all melancholy? Hell no!

Think about it a minute. Do you honestly think if Pryor were alive now, he'd get abusive with somebody just because they don't think he was an important part of their lives? Do you think he'd approve of what you said? If you think that I don't think you got the man.

As for what Fass or anybody else on NS has done, that's not relevant now is it? I've met some interesting people here and on the rate occasions I've gotten to know some of them, I've been amazed at what they've done with their real lives. That just isn't a question to ask here as if it proves anything. The best you can do with it is make somebody think, "yeah, what's my life worth?" And are you sure your own life would pass that test, Squatches?

I just don't see how you honor a comedian you obviously liked and respected by attacking somebody.

Wow, you really are a jagoff. The death of anyone, famous or not is something that should be respected. If you do not like people remembering someone for something that they accomplished during their time here on earth, than I encourage you to please leave this discussion.

Thank you.

Dude! You know Buddy Hackett's work? I used to dig his stuff even though I didn't hear as much of it as I'd have liked. Also got to hear some of Lenny Bruce before he died. An experience and a half.
That is so frickin' cool.

Nah, he'd hook me up to one of those coke can auditing devices and try to exorcise my thetans.

I like my thetans.

Coke cans? They're supposed to be Campbell soup cans. Tomato, I think.

Pretty sure. Heh.

Richard Pryor isn't a celebrity. He was a comedian. A real comedian. Sure, he did a few movies. Pretty good ones too. But what he WAS was a comedian.

Comedians don't do Scientology.

Isn't a sense of humor one of the things you have to get rid of so you can go OT -- like spontaneous human emotions generally? They start on it right away, as soon as you start the Comm Course you do the TRs and if you smile or laugh they tell you "Flunk!" and you have to do the TR over until you just sit there and stare like you're dead. That's got to make it rough to funny.

If he knew who Pryor was and had a problem with him it'd be one thing. But he didn't. So he's just dragging his dick through here like an attention whore.

Which is the problem, and I fell into the trap. He's just being an attention whore and if we keep feeding it we're just rewarding his behavior. Let it slide and he'll move on to other pastures.
