Does a citizenship or passport from a nation other then you national origin make you an (e.g.) French, Japanees, Canadian, Russian etc.

Do you think that for i.e. an Englishman gets a Nigerian citizenship that it makes him Nigerian?

I think there's something wrong with the criteria for gtanting citizenship, if it doesn't. Citizenship isn't just a word.

If I get an English citizenship, then I AM English, for all intents & porposes. And it's a 2-way street. I'll be responsible for making England the best possible place it can be. And the English society will have to accept me as an integral part of it, every bit as important as Tony Bollox.

Uh... If you get citizenship then you are a citizen of your new country...

Of course some could make arguements that you have to integrate with your new country's culture to be considered a true citizen of your new home.

I think it depends on the countries involved. Some countries allow dual citizenship(or even more than two. At the very least citizenship in a country makes you a part of that country, legally that is. So yes, having citizenship makes you French, Japanese, Russian etc, but in some places they are not mutually exclusive.

Nationality is total mince! Why should you feel affinity with someone just because you were born in a similar geographical area?? And culture is only social conditioning - it can be changed, albeit with some difficulty.

Interesting question. It gives rise to the question, "What is an 'Englishman,' or a 'Nigerian?'" I rather suspect it depends upon the Nation. In the US, there's actually no question. Once you're granted citizenship, you are an American ... period. But then, America is an entire nation of immigrants, so it makes sense to us. Most other nations have a deep cultural or even genetic basis, so the same answer might not apply.
