What's your favorite science?

Well, it's pretty good at pretending to be one. ;)

I was going to put "Creation Science" for the last option with a snide remark, but I figured it'd be too flamebaitish.;)

Personally, I'm really interested in computers and software and hardware. So, computers in general. Not a supergenius in the arena - I don't have any programming languages under my belt, but the area still fascinates me. I take chemistry as a complement towards computer science, at least the hardware portion (which is part mathematics/engineering and then the chemistry of the electronics with electrons and protons and neutrons oh my!). Since I'm consider myself diversified, right now I'm interested in subatomic particles and so forth and the whole atomic structure thing with cations, anions, covalent bonds, quarks, etc. It's really general chemistry, I suppose, but that's what they offer you in high school.;) And for the record, I never really liked biology.:D

Economics ain't a science now, is it?

Well, it's pretty good at pretending to be one. ;)

Well, I took a pretty broad list from Wikipedia and my own stuff and I only had 10 options and I had to be snide in at least one, so I could only pick 9 sciences, and I decided to take the "hard" ones first, then the social ones, and then add computer science because it's leet.

I don't think computer science really counts, but I voted for it anyway.

Yeah, I was skeptical about putting that. But, hey, I wanted to vote for it dammit!;)

Can we consider mathematics a science in its own right? If, for our purposes here, its not just considered a tool of science, then I'd go with mathematics. (I don't posture myself as any kind of expert on it, I just favor it.)

I voted physics. Astronomy is cool, but i guess in the long run it isn't quite as relevant as "the basis of how everything works".

perhaps a future poll on the same vein would be "most influential" or "favorite scientist of all time"

I bet it wasn't a zoologist.

I'm not sure on the definition of mathematics as a science. Hence, it wasn't included.

Here's a short (literally very short) comment on mathematics as a science: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mathematics#Is_mathematics_a_science.3F

Personally, when I think of sciences, I think of the natural sciences...as I'm sure most people do.

Biology, mainly because it includes paleontology. I like me dinosaurs.

It's closely followed by astronomy. I don't understand any of the mathematics, but I like the mental images of black holes, trinary star systems, supernovae... Good for inspiring sci-fi stories.

Well Astronomy was the closest of those listed but my favorite is really Cosmology. What's not to love about a science which has "proven" the existence of a dimension of time which this universe only experienced for about 8 picoseconds, "proven" because otherwise all of existence falls apart?

The second choice would also be hard to fit to you scheme, bio-chemistry. Sure chemistry is nice in itself as is biology, but the absolute beauty of the way the geometry of complex molecules casues them to interact blows them out of the water. Taking the complex molecules of biological organisms, seeing how that act and interact, and then seeing how minor changes in molecular structure affect organisms on a macroscopic level, exquisite. My attraction is probably more to the chemistry than the biology, but is not just chemistry which I can take or leave.

I like chemistry because you get to mix all the silly chemicals and then they bubble and fizzle and change colour and I really like it when they change colour.

i can't pick one. they're all facinating.
i love theoretical/logical physics (cos i can't deal with the maths)
biology is just amazing
chemistry is fantastic and with physics, really offers a base to understand things in all three core sciences (a-level was way better for this)

economics makes loads of sense (till i got to uni :() and is just interesting. explains so many things on a sociological level

what else??

psychology is intrinsically facinating... there isn't much more interesting than the study of the mind and the person/personality

computer science... don't know much but i loves my computer :)

Definitely mathematics. I admire its purity and elegance. "Queen of sciences" is a damn good definition for it, as it works on a purely theoretical level seemingly detached from real world and physical sciences, but at the same time setting rules all the lower sciences are subject to.
