So, I guess instead of putting down the Taboos thread, I should start my own. The topic here is, what do you see as totally fine, that other people see as taboo? (stay within the forum rules, of course.)

Eating.

The American culture seems to glorify "the diet", with South Beach, (F)atkins, and other BS emotionaly draining diets.

And then they come out with placards on the wall with "nutritional info" in fast food joints. Nutitional info?

America can glorify dieting and the thin supermodel look and the 6 pack, but the second they get between me and a Fish and Chips meal at The Weathervane, that's when I get upset.

Are you being sarcastic, do you not understand what 'taboo' means, or are you just dumb? (I'm not flaming here- just asking the question)

Nurtitional info. is required by law under the Food and Drug Act of 192-something. Before that, companies were putting all kinds of really good tasting but potentially harmful substances in their products. The act is an almost completely useless piece of legislation except for that single part.

Ha, I'm usually the one to use sarcastic humor and be baraged with angry people who don't get it. Oh well.

Not following instructions for the sake of following instructions is always a terrible taboo to people. Instead of using their own common sense, most people want just to follow instructions.

Resourcefulness is another taboo. When you solve a problem differently from the textbook solution, you'll get just weird stares. People are intensely afraid of persons who think for themselves, because they're unpredictable.

More like arsenic and carcinogenic substances to increase flavor or as food dyes.

Nose digging. Most people don't understand that unclogging a nose actually helps with breathing.

Suicide, particularly for those with terminal conditions.

Now mind you I am not saying that it's necessarily alright that just because someone drops into a blue funk or suffers from post partum(sp?) depression that they off themselves. I mean personally if they really want to, fine; it's their life, to keep or take, but I don't think that it is right.

That said, I do think that if someone who has no chance of survival and in is pain and doesn't want suffer any more in the hopes that a cure will suddenly be found to save their life wants to take the eternal dirt nap, who are we to judge them or naysay them?

You know just on a side note here, but which also could relate:

I heard there was a study that found that children that ate what they dug out of their noses actually had stronger immune systems than the average child. Ditto for those that had eaten a lot of dirt when young.

Hey not defending it, per se', but 'll bet those kids wish it weren't taboo. :p

Corpses (sexually, is it so terrible to want a good stiff now and again?, and socially, people used to prepare their own loved ones for burial why so squemish about a few minutes chatting at the coffin?), drug use, fattening foods (yes, I know about the caloric content, why is it you think I only eat this crap once a week?), gambling, selling drugs, euthenasia, suicide, and public executions.
