This guy can't keep out of the news. He is an attention whore I must say. Anyway if the CIA was going to kill him I would think that he wouldn't know about it.

Well, it doesn't look like he'll be voted out of office any time soon.

The American Government can't stand him, and he recently pulled that coup at the Americas Summit, which made Bush look pretty silly.

Then there was that Church guy. Plus one needs to be a little paranoid to make it into politics I guess, especially if the first time you tried went pear-shaped.

I don't think they'd try to kill him, but then I actually didn't think the US would consider bombing journalists on purpose, or that they would pull off this whole kidnapping-people-and-torturing-them thing.

So I think somewhere in their archives they have a plan to kill him.

Cmon now you actually think that Chavez made Bush look dumb in the America's summit? I think he made himself look like an ass with his pompus statements against the US and Mexico's Fox.

Also you truly dont believe the US was going to bomb AlJazeera's HQ do you?

I wish they were going to kill Hugo Chavez, but I'm afraid that whatever information you got on that is false.

One more thing to add and that is the plot to bomb Al-Jazeera was a total fabrication. It's been proven false.

no reason to kill him, he isnt a threat to world peace in general and the us in particular, he is just very bad for the venezuelans, but the usa really cant take care of everything.

aristide from haiti also claimed the usa wanted to kill him, so that fear seems to be quite common among commies.

Given that the US's atittude to people who democratically elect left-wingers has been to give a right-wing general a lot of money to make the problem go away or launch an invasion I'm not surprised.

Well yes, but he pulled of something of a diplomatic stunt, pretty decisively defeating the America-wide Trade Agreement that Bush had in mind.
He says stupid things because they will resonate with uneducated people all around the world - but I take him seriously. You don't become the man he is without being good at something.

Here's my theory.

In Afghanistan, the US used a "Shock & Awe" Campaign. The idea with shock & awe is to destroy the enemy's ability to direct his troops properly, and destroying communication infrastructure is a large part of that.
They probably assumed that the Taliban would have sympathetic elements in the local AJ offices (and they were probably right), and that AJ would therefore be used as a means of communication by the enemy. It would not be the first time that TV- and Radio-Stations were used for that purpose (BBC?).
So they bombed it.

And when they were working on Iraq, Bush might have thought they'd need to do the same thing here - plus maybe he really believes that AJ is pro-terrorist, who knows. It is true though that the Bagdhad offices of AJ were taken out.
And Blair thought it wasn't necessary, or advisable to bomb AJ in another country, and so they wiped that off the table.

If there hadn't been a degree of truth in this story, they wouldn't have shut the reporters up so quickly and harshly using anti-terror legislation. They would simply have denied it and left it, as they do with hundreds of other stories every month.

As for the Chinese Embassy thing in Belgrade...well, no idea why they did it, but I don't believe the "ooops, our multi-trillion dollar military didn't have up-to-date maps of the place we were gonna bomb" for a second.
