Strange, Rush has been praising Liebermann for his position on the liberation of Iraq over the last days. I hope Rumsfeld will continue to serve as secretary of war though.

Haha, the phrase "Secretary of War" hasn't been used since the 1800s or so. Kind of fitting these days, though, don't you think?

"Secretary of War" ceased to be used in 1947. The post was called "Secretary of War" because he led the "War Department". From 1789 to 1798, it encompassed all military affairs. In 1798, Secretary of the Navy was added, and the War Department concentrated on the Army.

The position was replaced two non-cabinet posts, Secretary of the Army, and Secretary of the Air Force, under the Secretary of Defense.

When I think of Rummy....the title "secretary of War" is soo appropriate..

The chaps you want are: Francis J. Harvey, and Michael Wynne.

WASHINGTON -- Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld dismissed speculation that he may be stepping down, as he huddled with supportive lawmakers Thursday to put a positive spin the administration's Iraqi policies.

"Those reports have been flying around since about four months after I assumed my post," Rumsfeld said after meeting with a group of House members in the office of Rep. Kay Granger, a Fort Worth Republican. "I have no plans to retire."

Lieberman meets with Rumsfeld amid retirement speculation
(Washington-AP, Dec. 8, 2005 7:49 PM) _ Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld hosted Senator Joe Lieberman for a breakfast meeting today amid speculation that the Connecticut Democrat could be in line to succeed him.

Lieberman, who has emerged as President Bush's staunchest Democratic defender on the Iraq war, has bucked his party as a vocal advocate for Bush's Iraq policies.

He did not talk about the morning meeting with Rumsfeld and General Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Lieberman aides provided few details about the breakfast, saying that their boss does not discuss private meetings.

The Pentagon told reporters that Rumsfeld, who routinely meets with members of Congress, wanted to hear Lieberman's impressions of his visit to Iraq over the Thanksgiving holiday. It was the senator's fourth trip to Iraq in 17 months.
