Can Kyoto Fix This?

In yet another bizarre effect of Global Warming, the North Pole is adrift (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051209/ap_on_sc/earth_magnetic_pole).

SAN FRANCISCO - Earth's north magnetic pole is drifting away from North America and toward Siberia at such a clip that Alaska might lose its spectacular Northern Lights in the next 50 years, scientists said Thursday.

Good thing Santa is using a GPS this year, instead of that old magnetic compass.

The Magnetic North Pole changes naturally. Not much to worry about (Although once in a while the magnetic feild flips, leaving Earth temporarily open to all that nasty space radiation. Serious, look it up). This has nothing to do with global warming. In fact, scientists measure the age of rocks my looking which way magnetic strata are pointed, and corroberating it with what time the pole was at that position.

Yeah! And can Kyoto fix your busted water heater? Uh-uh! Kyoto isn't even a good sandwich spread! And can you trust Kyoto to rewind a video tape? No way!

Is it just me, or does that sound like the plot for the world's lamest Spy movie?

Okay, but my heart just isn't in it.

We can't stop the North Pole from moving by just cutting CO2 emissions around the margins. What good is it going to do to cut a couple percent here and a couple percent there? We are ignoring the fact that the climate is going to change whether we try to stop it or not.

Right now, we should be developing technology that doesn't depend on the location of magnetic north. Something that will allow us to find our way home, even if we can't remember that East is least and West is best when we add or subtract magnetic variation from true bearings. We need to put all our available resources into some alternative to navigation by compass.

Wow, I didn't realize the issue here was navigation. I mean, I thought everyone was going to start freaking out about flooding, animal populations, global warming, mass extinction and the destruction of the planet. But I didn't realize that the dislodging of the frozen pole would actually mess with magnetism or radiation from the sun. OMG.... how will we fly our planes???

 How could you ignore all the straighta data that clearly shows CO2 "emissions" are the leading cause of "Rapid A-typical Polar Emigration"
or R.A.P.E. of the environment? (heckle, heckle);)

Natural climate change is good. Natural climate change that can be blamed on industry and EVIL capitalists is better.:headbang:

Ask the dinosaurs if natural climate change is good.
They had their billions of years to fix it. Problem is the big Pangea treaty just nibbled around the edges of the problem, much as the Kyoto treaty does now.
