Not satisfied with control of the three branches of government, some Republicans including Rick Santorum (http://www.spreadingsantorum.com/) and Grover Norquist have decided that all lobbyists who influence the government through campaign contributions, campaign management, and by buying them expensive trips and vacations should be under Republican control.

Anybody else have a problem with this? Instead of reducing the influence money and special interests have on government some Republicans want to harness it for their own political ends.

This has been going on for quite some time. The good effect it's had on the Democratic party is that the longer the Abramoff case goes on, the fewer Democrats are involved in it. Some big name republicans are likely to go to jail over all this. Also, it forced the Democrats to stop going after corporate money as much and start reaching out to their base more.

Here's the down side--Steny Hoyer, the Democratic whip in the House, has been trying to get corporations and K Street lobbyists to come back to the Democrats since it looks like the Republicans are going to be weakened in 2006. Stupid, stupid, stupid. We ought to be trying to get corporate money out of politics completely instead of just going back into the cookie jar.
