What's the best of the Mustangs? I like the original '64-
73, the Fox body, and the 05. My least favorites are the '70s Mustang II models.

That's my choice, too.

For the year, you couldn't beat its performance. 436 mp/h at 22,000 feet? Sheesh!

The origninal's of course. My Uncle used to have one of those, a 1967 red Mustang convertible. I dont know what was wrong with it, but he sold it for 100 bucks.

All time favorite, the '68 1/2 cobra jet.

For cruising fun, the ''65-66 convertibles.

For classy looks, the '67-68's are my favorites.

For mean looks, the '69-70's are it.

For comfort, I'll stick with the current generation:-)

Bullitt?

My dad says he remembers sneaking into theaters and seeing Bullit with his friends when he was a kid...

BTW, the color is Dark Highland Green.

I was all set to prove you wrong with websites and everything, and the first one I went to instead verified that it was Highland Green. But in General Forum tradition, I'm not going to admit I'm wrong. Instead, I'm going to change the subject...

For those cave dwellers (or people not so much into muscle cars or classic movie chases) this (http://media.putfile.com/bullitt) is what we're talking about. The ubercar chase, where Steve McQueen drives his ... green '68 GT390 fast back chasing down Don Rickles and Paul Desmond in thier Charger.

For fun (and that link really does take you to a video of the chase) anyone can count the number of hubcaps that the Charger loses (more than 4), but try and count how many times the green bug is passed. The chase suddenly 'warps' in San Francisco becuase the city wouldn't let anyone for any reason do more than 100mph across the bridge.

Well, you know how auto manufacturers' are with colors. Bright blue becomes Grabber Blue, light green becomes Anti-Establish Mint (hey, it was 1970), red-orange becomes Calypso Coral, etc.

Don Rickles and Paul Desmond? I always thought Bill Hickman was the driver. Ya know, the guy who pulled James Dean out of his wrecked Porsche?

It's a joke. It's always looked to me like insult comic Don Rickles and cool jazz legend Paul Desmond are in the Charger. I've never known the actual names of the actors, as it is far more amuzing to think it's a legendary comic and saxophonist in the car.

Ford Mustang Fastback 65
67 Ford Mustang Shelby GT 500
1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429
72 Mach 1 Ford Mustang

Not in that order--but nothing else really matters as far as 'stangs are concerned.

For me, this-

will always be Eleanor. A decent mustang chase, to be sure (45 minutes, over 100 cars destroyed...) but for true Mustang action, check the link in my earlier post.

Seriously, click that link. It's badass.

The new Cobra looks damned nice. I caught its preview in Car and Driver's 50th anniversary issue.

You cant argue with a Mustang that has the Ford GT's engine minus a few goodies (dry sump included.. :-\).

The Ultimate Performance GT500E is nice too, of course.. if you can afford the 125,000 dollar entry fee. Little beats seven liters of supercharged horsies.

It's always good to see the ranks of the nameless swell. I do like the look of the new mustang, but I'm holding off on certifying that until it's been out a while, as for some reason the mustang designs don't age well with me. I'll think, "Yeah, that looks alright." And then a year later I'm goin' "Ugh, is that thing plain..."

This never happens for the ... Green '68 GT390 Fastback. CLICK THE LINK IN MY EARLIER POST to find out why. Seriously. Unless you don't like cool things...

IMHO, the Boss 302 Mustang was the best ever made. I owned one of the 1969 models, one of the few cars I was ever able to pay cash for. I had it balanced and blueprinted, with JR Headers, torsion bars, etc., and use to race it on weekends. :)

I'd like to clone one of those some day. Give a 347 stroker, headers, a Paxton blower, and EFI. How cool would that be. The stock ones had about 340hp, and actually performed better at like 7000rpm. Stupid Ford rev-limiter stopped it at 6000, though.
