John Lennon, October 9, 1940- December 8, 1980. The Liverpoolian guitarest made famous with his English rock group "The Beatles" who would change music and the way people lived forever.
There is probably a thread out there, but I couldnt come across it, so I will post a thread asking you what was your favorite John Lennon song? It could be from when he was with the Beatles to when he was on his own. So, which is it?
For me, it's easy, All You Need Is Love.
Or Help, Help is good.
Lennon. The man people love to love...or love to hate. I'm of the former.
Oh, and of course...Imagine. It pretty much sums up my wish for the future.

Not really. Plenty of people hate that song and the politics it represents.

Oh. Better not push for that 'Working class hero' lyrics bit then...
Let's post this instead: "Some of you sitting there with your cock in your hand
Don't get you nowhere don't make you a man"
Hair Peace!
RIP a great man-Lennon Legend. There was so much more he could have done...they say he would have joined up with mcartiny again....and of course his best quote "Where bigger than jesus now!" He was right as well.
"Working Class Hero" and "Woman is the ****** of the World (http://www.john-lennon.com/songlyrics/songs/Woman_is_the_******_of_the_World.htm)".
Woman is the ****** of the world
Yes she is...think about it
Woman is the ****** of the world
Think about it...do something about it
We make her paint her face and dance
If she won’t be slave, we say that she don’t love us
If she’s real, we say she’s trying to be a man
While putting her down we pretend that she is above us

Whether he joined back up with any of the other Beatles again, he sure would have been prolific...I really wonder what could have been, had his life not been cut short. Kind of like Victor Jara actually (not the same situation, but the fact that they had many years of creativity left to them).

One of my favorites from his solo years. :) Gives me goodebumps.
But, then, I'm a feminist.

Victor Jara (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Victor_Jara), a very famous Chilean singer, with very similar political leanings to Lennon. He was murdered in the coup of 73...for some reason, I always think of one, when I think of the other. I think it's because both were very passionate, and likely to continue their political work...and would still be around to inspire us, had their lives not been taken.

I remember analysts all over the news for like 2 years pouring over JD Salinger's "The Catcher in the Rye" word by word trying to find Chapman's motivation.
They also played "Yesterday" over the loudspeakers in our school instead of saying the Pledge of Allegiance for a week.

I can't believe that John Lennon was killed because some guy from Hawaii was extremely religious. Some say that he killed John because he thought that John was the Anti-Christ. How messed up is that?
Here's something interesting: Chapman was actually going to kill him in November but his wife stopped him. In December, he threatened her at gunpoint so that he could go.
My favorite songs: Imagine, Love, Give Peace a Chance, and Woman is the ****** of the World

Not necesarily, maybe the school was under the assumption that Paul had been shot.

I think that believing Paul had been shot would also fall under the heading of 'fucked-up research'. Nevermind the fact that they were using one of the songs that Lennon singled out for particular criticism.

I don't have a favourite Lennon, song - All of his music is beautiful (as are the rest of the Beatles' songs)

Across the Universe - written by Lennon and McCartney - and not the version that Yoko had influence on. The original is one of my favorite songs in general.

I'd never heard of Jara, but I think Peter Tosh could fit into that category as well.

Nowhere Man. I just love that song. I also like Hey Bulldog
Something about his voice annoyed the hell out of me... never could put my finger on it.

I agree with Ekland that his voice had something to it, but I disagree that it was annoying. I absolutely love the Beatles, as they've been a part of my life ever since I can remember. I still find meaning and joy in the songs of Lennon/McCartney, Harrison, and even Starr. My favorite Lennon song would have to be She's Leaving home: just the haunting beauty of it is incredible to me. It was one of the first Beatle songs I hjeard and it has so much meaning to me.

I am a HUGE Lennon fan and I must say, it's nice to see all the varied opinions on him out there.
John never wanted to be a posterboy for peace really. Rather, he was aware of his power and hoped that people would listen, If they didn't, it was well and truely up to them..
there are soo many songs. However I chose "Love is," "Beautiful boy (darling boy)" "Woman" and "Nobody Told Me" and from The Beatles I choose "Girl" and "This Boy"
"How do you want to be remembered, John?"
"Hee, hee. Well as a guy from Liverpool who wrote some nice songs. Don't take my songs as gospel, man. They are just songs..just songs... "
1980 interview
That quote, for me at least; embodies everything that John was.

That's exactly what draws me closer to the ideas of Lennon: he was humble. Although Harrison also has a lot of meaning for me, John and Paul were simply amazing in there knowledge and creatiopn of music, and humble to the ramifications society placed on the music

Yes, and if you visit Liverpool you feel it all the more. People there are either sick to the back teeth of him or, are fiercely protective of his memory. I find that very refreshing and Liverpudian to the core.

"Imagine" -- still speaks to me
"Watching the Wheels" -- more and more appropriate as I get older
"Beautiful Boy" -- because I used to sing it (as "Beautiful Girl") to my step-daughter who I'm not allowed to see anymore
I remember the night Lennon died very well.

Methinks a lot of you need to read The Playboy Interview with John Lennon. They went through damn near every song ever recorded by the Beatles and John specifically said who wrote what, and what parts John wrote on the ones they'd written together. You can mostly figure it out without it though. The introspective songs were almost always John, and the fanciful songs all Paul's. Sgt. Peppers was Paul's baby all the way. John hated it.
As for my favorites..... Imagine, or The Ballad Of John and Yoko. Maybe #9 Dream and Across The Universe. He had so many really good ones.

i'm a pretty belligerent fella, hate commies cause they are stupid, but lennon was brilliant.
hit's close to home with me.
my mom's was friends with him when he lived in ncy(the dakotas)
i went to the tribute they had in central park for him(and about a million others..overstated)after he died, like a week later...shows my age i guess, but he was a good man i would have opened my doors too any time.
he was a good hearted man, hated by many(incorrectly) and loved by many(me and my family felt he was for real in his beliefs)and the kicker...my pop's was a staunch republican...lol....until my mom..a saint...showed my dad, money aint the end all...i miss my mom,to my pop's credit...lol...he tried doing the whole guitar thing and be a hippy, stealing my weed...but my mom was the true at heart type.
thats why i am so conflicted,my dad was correct...money matters..but my mom always made me feel warm inside,so did john..a better tribute i cant think of...great man,
i am listening to audio slave...and would rather here norwegion wood!....go figure.
as a matter of fact,i will lime wire it...norwegion wood,i played that song as a boyscout to the dismay of the anti communists...lol.
then followed it up with hey jude, then got resoundingly boooed of the stage, when i was 10,so ended my music carreer...lol...but he was always a great man in my eyes.:)
