Nuclear weapons not a nuclear family! pointless, Nukes could destroy all earth by accident, they're ridiculously dangerous, if any rogue states or dangerous groups get their hands on them, well it doesn't bear thinking about.

Hello what is your opinion of nuclear anything?

I am vehemently against nuclear fusion. As I type this countres like Afghanistan as well as dangerous communist states are reaping the benefits of nuclear fusion, while there are no inspectors in sight. No UN sanctions are being passed to stop nuclear fusion. Not even the noble Bush is acting against it.

I propose that America acts to stop nuclear fusion NOW. Totally ;)

As far as the enviroment goes. I was always strongly against nuclear energy as a fuel, at the moment however I see Global warming as even more dangerous so I'd have to support an increase in nuclear fuel use at least for the forseeable future.

As for use as a wepon I think its the best defense policy any country has ever had and I'm certain without them 100's of millions of people would have died in the enevitable wars superpowers would have had. I am in favour of as many NATOS and alliances set up not to use them as possible but nuclear wepons will mean I'll never be forced to conscript to the army and chances of being invaded myself are minimal. If diplomacy can work with Stalin then I think we'll be fine... Just gotta be careful of the muslim fundamentalists

Not true actually, it would take only one of the hundreds or even thousands of radar centre's set up in the cold war to think it saw something like a missile to start a nuclear war.And because so many of these radars are outdated this could easily happen.actually.

Ummm... maybe you need to read up on things. At the very least, the US has spent A LOT of money replacing the radars, the computers, the networks, and forming a Space Command. Not outdated at all.

Only if we had a thundering butt-load more of them than we do now... In fact, only if we had a metric thundering butt-load more that there ever were on this planet. While nukes are indeed fearsome, humans regularly survive through events that release more energy than all the nuclear stockpiles in the world. Events like Katrina, or the Indian Ocean Tsunami, or Krakatoa. Each of those events released more energy than all the world's stockpile, and yet, here we humans still are, happily polluting up the planet.

Meanwhile, how do I feel about nukes, themselves..? Eh. Like any other tool, they have no karma of their own - They acquire the karma of their users.

I strongly support nuclear power. The new technology is clean, more efficent, and much safer than the older reactors, and produces tons of energy without reliance on fossil fuels. We should build nuclear fission plants as a bridge to nuclear fusion technology, and as a means to address the growing demand for power and the high cost of fossil fuels.

Such incidents have already happened, and with depressing regularity. Yet, somehow, despite what looked like, in some cases, decapitation attacks, and in others, full-on launches, we've never had a nuclear weapon exchange. You see, there's this little fail-safe built into the system. It's called human command in the decision loop.

All that energy released in those disasters affected a relatively small area.
If all the worlds nuclear weapons were to be launched, mankind would more than likely cease to exsist.

A small area?! Look these up again, and tell me they affected a small area, if you can. Nukes affect relatively small areas - A few score to a couple hundred square miles each. Have you any idea just how large an area mankind covers? Have you any idea how large a huricane is? Have you any idea how large the Indian Ocean basin is?

Go do a bit of studying.

Aparently those are illegal in Russia. A couple of families found some barrels with nuclear waste a few years back in the Tjernobyl area, and used the barrels for heat during (a) winter. I can't remember the details, but they did get in trouble for it.

I always wondered if they glowed in the dark? Handy for reading on the long winter nights, I'd imagine.

Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057012/)

Quotes:
[first lines]
Narrator: For more than a year, ominous rumors had been privately circulating among high-level Western leaders that the Soviet Union had been at work on what was darkly hinted to be the ultimate weapon: a doomsday device. Intelligence sources traced the site of the top secret Russian project to the perpetually fog-shrouded wasteland below the Arctic peaks of the Zhokhov Islands. What they were building or why it should be located in such a remote and desolate place no one could say
Deleuze
09-12-2005, 20:18
Odd. I came to the exact opposite conclusion.
Strange. The movie illustrated all of the flaws in the system of deterrence: If we're so afraid of nukes, we should build bigger and scarier ones in order to protect us from them, culminating in the "doomsday device" which takes the fear of nuclear weapons to entirely new heights. "Because we're so afraid of the Americans nuking us, we'll build a weapon that will convince them not to." The world is destroyed as a result of the escalating nature of nuclear fear. However, the last scene provides an alternative to this debilitating and counterproductive fear - engaging with the bomb ironically allows to confront nuclear fear and wepaons by taking away the untouchable status the bomb currently has.

Oh and by the way-A SPACE COMMAND! what a load of tosh! And further up the message board it says these things have already happened! Lets just say, Nuclear Bombs are Bad! They could kill us all! It's happened to every nuclear power, and yet, the missiles have not flown, and the bombs have not dropped... The other nuclear powers are just as sane as America - They all have people in the decision-loop.

As for "They could kill us all!"; Well, I suppose, as said before, if we had a whole metric butt-load more of them, that might be true. If. But then, we could all die if gravity failed. Better do something about that... We could all die if our hearts stopped. Better ban hearts, too. A celestial object could smash into earth and send us the way of the dinsaurs... Somebody better ban orbital mechanics while we're at it.

Fact is, as I also said before, nukes have no karma of their own; they acquire the karma of those who hold and use them. Right about now, I've got rather few worries.
