I used to like it when I was a kid, but I think that's only because it signaled Christmas was coming. Now, I love the smell, but I can't stand the consistency...I have to cut it with skim milk. I like the spices...but the Chileans have a version I enjoy much more than eggnog, even eggnog with rum...it's called Cola de Mono (monkey's tail) and it's a mixture of coffee, milk, and aguardiente (which is basically over proof moonshine). Do they put eggs in? Hmmm...maybe they do. But no spices, just some sugar...it's really yummy, gets me drunk, and doesn't hurt my tummy like eggnog.

Eggnog with a little Whiskey or Brandy or dark Rum in it (it's the ONLY time of year I'll mix a drink over having a beer)... Egg Nog Rocks.

it's gross, and useless. It's much better to get drunk before the family get together, that way you don't have to deal with them while waiting for your egg nog buzz to kick in :p

Store-bought eggnog is vile. Which is why most people hate it.

There's a Julia Child recipe for eggnog which is heavenly - it has dark rum and cognac in it. Every time I make it, people who HATE eggnog become permanent converts to homemade eggnog.

DO NOT BUY STORE EGGNOG - YOU WILL BE SORRY.

make it this way...

You'll need

1 Dozen eggs (separated into yolks and whites)
1 1/2 cups sugar, divided into two equal parts
1 1/2 cups dark rum
4 1/2 cups whole milk
4 1/2 cups cognac
3 cups heavy whipping cream (in two equal parts)
Ground nutmeg

Separate eggs into yolks and whites in separate bowls. I put the whites into the mixer and the yolks into another bowl.

Beat egg-yolks with 1/2 of sugar, set aside.

Beat egg-whites until stiff, then mix in other 1/2 of sugar.

Poor the yolks into the whites and mix together slowly.

Stir in dark rum slowly

Stir in milk slowly

Stir in cognac slowly

Stir in 1/2 of cream slowly

Whip rest (1/2) of cream and fold in carefully.

Serve at room temperature by ladling the eggnog into cups and sprinkle nutmeg on the top. Try to get some of the foam and some of the liquid (if not fully mixed) in each cup.

I have to know what it is

6 Eggs
2 c Heavy cream
1 c Milk
3/4 c Sugar
1/2 c Rum
1/2 c Brandy
1/2 c Whisky
1 tb Nutmeg

Separate the eggs and set the whites aside. Mix the yolks well, gradually adding the cream, milk, and sugar. WHip the egg whites until "soft peaks" form. Fold the whites into the yolk mixture. Gradually add the Rum, Brandy and Whiskey. Let the egg nog sit, uncovered, in the refrigerator for 2 hours. Sprinkle the Nutmeg over the top right before serving

Not being funny, but couldn't you have just said 2 cups of whole mile and 2 cups of cognac?

I've never had it. I've never even seen it in England. Probably for health and safety reasons...

You can buy eggs in the US that can be eaten raw (sterilized by radiation).

It has a heavenly taste.

I don't know what to say about eggnog. I had it quite a few times as a child (non-alcoholic), because I liked the taste and all, but I always ended up feeling ill for awhile after drinking it.

I guess eggnog and I just have a love/hate relationship.

*shrugs* I just like my coffee to taste like a liquid candybar.

And I found the recipe for Honey Egg Nog for those feeling adventurous.

Honey Egg Nog
3 cups whole milk
1 egg, lightly beaten
1/3 cup honey
1/8 tsp. ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. rum (optional)
Whipped topping (optional)
In large saucepan, combine milk, egg, honey, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt; mix well. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla and rum.

Chill at least 2 hours. Serve with whipped topping, as desired. Makes 4 servings.

Disliking eggs, and being unable to consume most malted liquiors I have only tried this one, I have to say I did not care for it. I know that malted beverages are an aquired taste though.

Being the last person on earth that one should go to for and comparison of malted beverages (with the exception of Sparks, DRINK IT: IT R GOOD) I voted other.
