I've heard this said, and decided to satisfy my curiosity, bearing in mind that a poll in NS might not, of course, be truly representative of anything.

[Poll coming shortly]

Tricky to say, really. I would say that people who are conservative travel less, but I don't think it is true vice versa.

I don't have a way of backing that up, though, it's just my impression.

I think exit polls of people with passports (not necessarily more well-travelled people, just people with passports) show a liberal trend.. but I haven't seen it myself.. I travel extensively and consider myself a conservative.. I can guarantee that I have more miles stamped on my passport than most. There's probably a large pool of people who have passports for one-time trips to Aruba or Jamaica or someplace.

According to a recent study I read, 15% of people who describe themselves as "more conservative" also stated that they travel "frequently," compared to 25% of those describing themselves as "more liberal."

Well ... let's see ...

List of countries I have visited, worked in, lived in:

USA, Japan, Indonesia, The Philippines, Thailand, Cambodia ( shhh! ), Laos, South Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Canada, Germany, Italy, and a couple of others I don't care to mention here.

So, how has all that travelling affected my political persuasions? Damned if I know! I'm not as "conservative" as I was when I was younger, but I attribute that to having matured a bit as I aged. :D

EDIT: BTW ... I didn't vote in your poll because none of your options fit me! :p

I've travelled to over 40 countries, and I consider myself to be a conservative.

I'm considered 'liberal' and I've been to *counts* 10 countries outside of my own.

Didn't you know? 82.17% of statistics are made up on the spot, with no supporting research to back them up.

Or at least that was true in 1997. I suspect the percentage has gone up since then.

:p
