I'm very glad I was born in the U.S.A.

There are several other countries that I would probably be equally glad to be born in. But considering the global birthrates and population, I would say that I'm very lucky. Most countries would have tortured me to death for various heresies and infidelities by now. :p

I think anyone with half a brain would be glad to have being born in America other than some third world country or one with a highly opressive regime. Doesn't mean it's the perfect place which the rest of the world should submit to - i'd be more glad to have being born somewhere like Canada, New Zealand or somewhere in northen Europe than America if I was born there.

I rather like being a California native (in that I was born in California, not that I am a member of Califorinia Native Tribe, which I'm not.) I like Northern California a lot, I like most the people here and the geography. But there are other places that seem cool, too. I didn't really influence my parents to give birth to me here, nor for thier parents to do the same. I don't know that it makes me special, even though I tease Southern Californians and people from land locked states. Eh, it's just a place.

You obviously weren't born here.

What kind of basis of comparison do you have?
How many countries have you been born in?

How do you know what its like to live here?

How do you know that having lived here, is any better or worse, than were youre from?

Of course my fiancee still swears that I'm actually Japanese and the fact that I was born in the USA was some sort of mistake so take my opinion with a grain of salt. :p

As glad as some posters were not to be born in a third world country, we all seem to be dumb, right. Then let´s just close this thread for it´s inherent dumbness in the original question, right. My basis of comparison is 33 years of living, traveling and experience. But please enlighten me, as you were obviously born in several countries, how does that feel? Distorted? As to your last sentence...sorry didn´t get the grammar, but I´m only an EFL, so just ignore me...

For the most part, I enjoy living in the US. I enjoy the great variety of cultures that amass here. In many places the landscape is very beautiful. There are many other reasons, but I won't list them in favor of keeping this post minimal. My biggest complaint is the lack of free healthcare for every citizen. There's a few other gripes I have that are so over-debated on NS General, I won't bother listing them either. I would love to visit other places outside of the US to experience and learn new things, however.

Hmm I thought I was pretty clear.

You made a passing remark about how glad you were, that you werent born in America.

My point, is, since you were most certainly born in only one country, and likely raised in that same country, and have spent most of your life, if not all, living in that same country....

How would you know if its better, or worse, than living in the country you currently reside?

Since you didnt choose your country of origin, what kind of basis of comparison do you have?
You cant very well say "I liked being born in New Guinea much better than Paraguay!"

Okay people. This is a lesson in something called reading comprehension.

If you are asked the question, "are you glad you were born in the United States," answering "Yes, I am glad I wasn't born in the USA" is the WRONG answer. It is contradictory. You say "Yes," which implies agreement and that you were in fact, born in the USA. Then you say you weren't. Basically, it's a nonviable answer since the question is not directed at you.

Second, this thread isn't about how egotistically pride non-Americans are not to be Americans. We get it, OK? That whole nationalism thing Europeans have had, and fought each other over for hundreds of years (including those little world wars I might add) would in fact corroborate your position that America sucks and you are sure glad you're not a part of it.

I'm not one to complain about America bashing, but this is just ridiculous with everyone here piping in, apparently, just to be assholes.

For the reading comprehension part - yeah, maybe true. It's funny to answer the question that way, though. :D

But how do you expect people to react when the only answer for non-US-Americans ends with "you jackass"?

That's just begging for it, don't you think?

Content d'être né en France. :)

I wouldn't want to live in the States, and I'm glad I was born in France. But then, it's all relative. I'd also rather be born in the US than in Somalia, the DRC, Liberia or a few other places I wouldn't even want to visit, let alone live in. Again, then this whole thread is unnecessary...so take your point to the OP. Or maybe you just didn´t get the point in being sarcastic here. Otherwise it would be just ranting by born americans how great or not great it is to be born etc...since this is a free medium, you had to expect some of those dirty foreigners to wash up your shore

This isn't really a question I can answer until all facts are in.

For all I know, some raving lunatic with a bent and an army could somehow manage to rise to power and become dictator and then I might no longer be glad about being born here.

I try not to predict the future.

For a more accurate answer, I suggest asking me after I am dead.

I not prepared to argue, but it's awfully easy in America. There are soup kitchens in most cities and major towns. Or you can go into the dumpster of any major fast food restaurant and eat better than a Kurd! :p

Now apply everything you've just said to the people born in the US who are saying they're happy they were. Most of them can't compare it to anything either. And even the statement...'of course it's better than being born in some third world country' (not stated by you, I know) shows an incredible amount of ignorance. It assumes, for one, that all life outside of the 'industrialised West' is miserable, and it also assumes that everyone wants to live in the industrialised West. They don't.

No, if you're poor and struggling to find your next meal America is the worst place to be. Try China, they have 2 billion people and manage to keep a much bigger percentage living in lower middle class then we do. Even if you aren't REALLY poor life is very difficult in America. All together our household brings in about $13,000 a year and we can barely get by due to insurance, and medical bills, and a whole lot of other things that should be paid for by the government.

Wouldn't want to live anywhere else. We have our problems, but what country doesn't? However, it's becoming less desirable to live here as half of the rest of the world seems to be trying to get in. We can only accomodate so many people, and I think we're about at capacity right now.
