The future of rap.

And introducing an essayish thing on hip hop:

For last err... well since 1979 hip hop has been a profitible in-dus-try. Now, if we can remember the 80s, we can remember the state of rock:

Band after band came out with only two kinds of songs: The hard rock and the ballad. But after 1989 a nice little band called Nirvana came out, but why did they sell?

Oversaturation.

The point is people were tired of the party and sad. And then, Kurt died. Rock plummeted and pop reigned. Evil, demonic, teen pop. I'm afraid I fell for it too... blah.

Fast track to 2005. New hip hop artists are coming out with party tracks all about the booty (Get Low) or pop R&B songs that talk about the nasty (Let's get Naked). But it isn't one song, it's all of them. So what's my prediction? Several, including:

Hip hop will fizzle and will make room for either reggaeton, house, or rock. Maybe retro'll be in and we'll see New Wave.

Maybe Ska'll come back, who knows. What do you see in the future of hip hop? Discuss.

Now granted my history is a bit biased, but I wasn't raised in a suburban neighborhood, and I wasn't raised in the ghetto either. Nor in the city or in a farm... but whatever. Just see me, where do you see rap in ten years?

In the trash I hope. I can't escape it in this suburban world...

reggaeton is garbage...i wouldn't mind house tho, or even trance (but i'm only dreaming now :()

Yeah reggaeton sucks. I wish there was originality in that genre. It'll probably go the way of New Wave in the 80s.

That or evolve.

Because they lifted their musical dynamics in toto from the Pixies and stripped away their knowing presentation making an easily digestible mass-market product.

Oh god, I hope not. I am old enough to have lived thorugh that the first time.

Well... that too.

Personally I'd hope bands like SR-71 can step in and make something of themselves (actually I wish we'd get some proper proggy stuff back but hey...)

I hope it dies a slow and painfull death. My brother is a bit of a 'wigger' and it really anoys the crap out of me.

Have you tried leaving him deserted in a ghetto?

I don't think Hip-Hop will die as there are still some quality artists out there with a real message. Hip Hop will continue to evolve and hopefully will move away from the Gangsta lyrics so common today (although I must admit to loving the hard edge). Like it or not - hip hop is here to stay. I hope that there is a new Tribe Called Quest on the horizon as needs a popular intelligent voice.
Check out DJ Dangermouse/Jay-Z's they Grey Album - a mash up of the White Album and Jay-Z's Black Album - to see why Hip Hop is here to stay.
