Good job Sweden and Germany!

It seems Sweden and Germany have decided to pay for the relocation of some 500 Roma from the UN refugee/death camp that they had been stuck in since the Bosnian conflict. The camp was on the site of an old lead smelting plant and the gypsies were suffering with neurological illnesses and severe birth defects. Sweden and Germany will pay to move them to a more healthy location.

Bump
Why won't anybody read my post?
It's a nice post.
It's meant to congratulate Germany and Sweden.
They've done a good thing.
It's also meant to show how the UN isn't as good as some people claim.
The truth shall set you free, you know?
People should know that the UN is screwing up.
Then they can fix the UN.
Maybe they'll scrap it in favor of some other organization.
I haven't eaten breakfast cereal in a long time.
Nobody's going to see this.
I can type anything I want.
Should I insult someone?
No, that wouldn't be nice.
I sure would love an ice cold beer right now.
I could break into my stash of scotch.
It's not the same though.
I'd much rather enjoy a lager.
How long should I keep typing?
I'd kind of like to make this post really long for no good reason.

They were there for six years? Sad. I guess when you only number 560 that it's easy to be glossed over in favor of more sensational news. Kudos to Sweden and Germany.

You wrote all of that expecting no-one to read it?

People read it - there just wasn't a reply because it wasn't bad news and didn't contain sex.

Well, sort of. I didn't really expect anyone to read it, but I thought it possible someone might. Now the cat's out of the bag.

Why won't anybody read my post?
The reason is quite simple, and, in fact, you hit on it already.
It's meant to congratulate Germany and Sweden.
They've done a good thing.
. . . And . . .
It's also meant to show how the UN isn't as good as some people claim.
See? No? I'll explain:
You are congratulating a European Country, this will make the conservatives hate/ignore you because you are denying that "3UR0P3 = 73H L4M3Z0RRZ"
However, you then go on to point out an example of UN incompetence, this makes everyone else hate/ignore you because you are highlighting a flaw in the precious Organization of Peace and Justice and Mercy and Light (May It Forever Spite the American Infidels).
You have made a depressingly common NS mistake of taking the Third Path between to dangerous polar extremes (<--Buddha Reference 0.o) which makes everyone want you to just go away.
i hope I'm being clear, but I'm not really sleeping enough lately.

If Germany had illegally sold Roma men and women to perform in Swedish sex films, this would have gotten some attention - but doing the right thing doesn't sell. Not even on NS.
We'll put it with the story about US forces treating 2000 sick Pakistanis. On the back pages.
I saw a documentary about this UN camp last year I think. I'm glad something has actually been done...the situation seemed pretty hopeless. No one wanted them.

No, it isn't getting much response because there is nothing to fight about. This is a good move. No argument there. However, we could start a debate about the inefficiency of the UN...

Wow, what really seems odd about this is that there doesn't seem to be 'stick' that was beating Germany and Sweden into doing this. I'm sure there was a lobby group involved, but it doesn't seem to have any direct benefit for these countries. I'm pretty damn impressed.

I met some Gypsies once. Nice people.
Good on them for getting moved somewhere healthy. Sad for them having to wait so long.

Yeah. They managed to get my wallet without using force.

The statement often given as terrifying in the US is,
"I'm from the government, and we're here to help you."
But I know that far more frightening is:
"I'm from the United Nations, and we're here to help you."
