Brokeback Mountain opens this weekend (against the Chronicles of Narnia) albeit only on 5 screens, with wider distribution slated to begin afterwards. If you don't recognize the title, it's also known as the gay cowboy movie, and it'll be starring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhall.

So just wondering, will you be seeing the film or not? Does the idea of a gay cowboy movie intrigue you or gross you out? Will it be a career killer for either star?

Lets see, being gay, yeah, I find the idea of two gay cowboys totally revolting :rolleyes: Worse than Hitler without a moustache.

By the way, according to this story (http://www.salon.com/ent/feature/2005/12/07/brokeback_mountain/index.html) the religious right has no plans to picket the film, in part because they don't want to give it any extra publicity. Good for them.

It's based on a short story by Annie Proulx, a writer I find completely unreadable. She claims it's a relationship story that just happens to be between two men as opposed to a man and a woman--a love story/western if you will. Just, you know, gay.

And I'm going to see if it's better than the story I tried to read.

I hadn't planned on seeing this. I watch enough indie faire that I don't need to see every gay themed movie that comes out. Though I guess one that isn't cartoonish or about coming out (I mean, I know that's a big moment and all, but that can't be the only gay story that can be told, can it?)...

I guess it depends on what I'm doing when I'm near a theater that's playing it. Where I live there are more art screens then there are mainstream screens, and even the mainstream theater plays some indies, so I got a lot to choose from.

Dude, have you ever been to a college chicks dorm room? For all the crap we get for liking girl on girl action, chick dig gay dudes. They'll go in great herds with thier gay friends that they secretly or outwardly wish where straight but then they wouldn't like them because chicks are complicated...

No kidding. If they hear that this is a love story, they'll be in it in droves. It'll be "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" meets "Titanic," and since it only cost $13 milion, the film company will be rolling in it.
