First, what the heck is a pen gun, anyway?
Second, there really are some people that are stupid enough to ...
ST. PARIS, Ohio — Steven Zorn had put the pen gun to his head and clicked before, apparently thinking it was jammed and would not work.
But on the third try, the tiny silver pistol went off as the 22-year-old budding rap artist was drinking to celebrate an impending record deal. He died at a hospital.

Yet another person kills themselves, or did he?
Z0MG! C0N5P1R4CY!!! Everyone knows you can't use no pen to fire bullets, the FBI must have assassinated him because they thought he was going to fly out and end the War in Iraq! Not only that, but there must have been a second shooter, who didn't actually shoot, but could have if he wanted to!
I thought that kind of thing only happened in fiction.
And then you matured, and realized reality doesn't jive with ideolgy. Join the crowd.

I do believe shooting oneself is an automatic disqualification.
*checks* Yep, it is.

Yes, it looks just like a pen. You usually unscrew it (in half), insert the .22 LR cartridge into the barrel, and screw it closed again. To fire, you pull the firing pin back until it locks. Pressing what looks like the pocket clip releases the firing pin and it strikes the rim of the cartridge.
Not very reliable weapons, and inaccurate, except when some idiot is holding it to his head.

A gun that looks like a pen.
As I understand it, making guns look like other things used to be in vogue. IIRC they were marketed to more respectable members of society, especially women, as a way to defend themselves in case of mugging or other violent crime. Guns could also be put in canes, pill boxs, purses.
Needless to say they usually weren't very effective since they commonly only fired one shot before needing to be reloaded and the round was very small and caused little damaged.
They are now collectors items.

About these concealed/camoflagued weapons? Has one been made from an umbrella? It would be rather ideal since you could literally conceal a rifle as the handle, and no-one would notice if you pointed it forwards, expecting you to raise it above your head.

I think there was some guy who tried to take out Sherlock Holmes with an Umbrella/Rifle.

Well, if you used a sharp angled hook instead of the curved type as the handle, you could concievably disguise a clip as that with the trigger further up the grip which is thumb activated. So you'd not only have a fairly decent cartridge size, but a clip of anywhere from 5 to 8 rounds before you needed to reload.

So when I make my next set of pens, do I need a FFL? Just kidding, but I have visions of the BATF guys barging in while I'm turning a pen on my lathe.

You'll need more substantial metal than the traditional pen.
You can buy them and register them as an AOW (Any Other Weapon). 25 dollar tax stamp instead of 200 dollars. They are extremely collectible.

Now, you have me thinking about making money.
I have made pens from titanium. Turning any kind of metal isn't a problem. I think that some chrome-moly would be strong enough, but the finish would suck. Plating is probably the way to handle that. Rifling the barrel is probably the hardest problem to solve, but I'm sure there are some liners out there that would work just fine. One stop at Brownells is all it would take.
And I would need a FFL to make them for sale.

Bah, the East Germans were far more elegent. They built a pellet gun into their umbrellas and armed them with pellets soaked in... I think it was Ricin.
Used it to knock off expatriot dissidents in London back in the 70s. Until one survived and told the story of getting sick after getting jabbed by one....
