Gotta looooooooooooove the bloody media

You think you've seen the outer limits of how low the media can stoop? Wait till you see this AP headline:

Israeli Suicide Bomber Kills Five at Mall (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051205/ap_on_re_mi_ea/israel_explosion_17;_ylt=Auqib9gAn7ssWKYPXW2VQaQUewgF;_ylu=X3oDMTA2ZGZwam4yBHNlYwNmYw).

Yep, you're reading it right. It's wrong, yes, it's absurd and idiotic, but this is the headline AP published this story under.

The actual story, of course, is about a Palestinian bomber killing five Israelis in an Israeli mall, as evident by the text. But the headline tells you the exact opposite. To find out the truth, you would have to actually read the text-and it's no big secret for anyone media savvy that for lots and lots of casual news readers, it is the headline that commands attention.

It could, of course, be another one of those "honest mistakes", that for some reason always happen to one side and never to the other. Suppose. But is it still a coincidence if the same absurd, mind boggling "honest mistake would happen simultaneously, on the same story, to more than one (http://news.scotsman.com/international.cfm?id=2355432005) media source?

(In case The Scotsman edits this while you're reading, the headline says Five killed in Israeli suicide bomber attack- again implying that the bomber was an Israeli).

Big conspiracy. The first few words of the story make clear it was a Palestinian. This is just a poorly worded headline by the AP. And others copy the AP.

No one reading that headline would think the suicide bomber was really an Israeli. (Although they might assume he was a Palestinian living in Isreal.)

Maybe he had Israeli citizenship. :p

But it's the same as calling it "Jordanian" suicide attack, or Iraqi suicide attack. Poorly worded...but not necessarily worthy of the tinfoil hat just yet.

Well, you know them Israelis..

Well, after all, they are well-known for attacking themselves with suicide bombers.

Newspapers do this sort of thing all the time, there are books written about it.

Mistakes are more fun especially when it becomes memorialized.

Anyone with any knowledge at all of the middle east would know what it really meant. I had to read it three times before I figured out what was wrong. My mind instinctively knew that it was an arab muslim who was the suicide bomber.

That being said, perhaps the AP really is a puppet of the vast left-wing conspiracy, and was attempting to subconsciously influence people who had just awakened from 60 year comas.

Yeah, the only funny thing on Jay Leno's show is a weekly segment where they show several articles like this. The last one I remember was a story about a woman who was retiring from her job at the age of 65. The headline read "65 year old woman puts out for the last time."

Yeah, the only way an actual Israeli is likely to be a suicide bomber is when his aircraft runs out of rockets and he says to himself, "dammit, I just gotta keep explodin' stuff. BANSAI!"
