*reads through site for Gilchrist* So... Why isn't this guy running under a Republican ticket? He seems ideally suited for the GOP.

Anyway, I like elections for the legislature, because there's actually a chance for 3rd-party candidates to win them. Go Tiritilli!

Hah, I used to live in that district, back in the day.. I'm in San Bernadino (County) now, so I won't be voting down there.. our local GOP does quite well here.. I wish 'em luck down there, although they shouldn't need much. :)

Shoot, Cohen seems like the only decent one. Gilchrist is a hard-line religious conservative, Young is nothing more than a protectionist coward who wants the government to prop up business and supress competition, Tiritilli's ridiculously anti-business and big government, and Campbell's against gay marriage, liberalization of relations with Cuba, and is pro-life, so he's out too.

He's running on the immigration issue. He's the leader/founder of the Minuteman Project.

Ahhh.

That answers the "why do I care?" question.

Yeah, this is a district a Democrat doesn't have a hope in hell in, unless there's a strong showing from a third party candidate to pull some votes from the republican. Enter Gilchrist.

I hold out no hope for the Democrat to win, mind you--every possible thing has to break his way and the RNCC dumped half a million bucks into this race over the last couple of weeks to hold it (which tells you how scared the republicans are about their standing), and I don't imagine it'll come through.

But man it would be sweet if it happened.

Notice how the majority of the voters did not vote for the new "representative." Can we have proportional representation now?

Meh; a Parliamentary system wasn't drafted by the divinely-inspired Founding Fathers and is sorta French, so the average American isn't going to be favoring it much.

*grumbles at results* Eh, well; at least Gilchrist didn't win, and the Greens did better than the Libertarians. Still dissappointing.

Nothing about proportional representation necessarily requires a parliamentary system.
