Having just broken up with a band and already getting recruited for another, I was curious how many other NSers have before been or are now in a band.

And just to make it interesting, feel free to list names.

Here's some of mine (in attempted chronological order as I have been doing this since I was 12):

The Mike Williams Experience
The Outcasts
Abby Normal (at which time I jammed with the Goo Goo Dolls a bit)
Everybody's Lunchbox
The Happy Dogs
The Sexies
Sexboy (One show with 3 songs based on the Kids in the Hall)
Red Rover
10 Lb. Cock (http://www.go.to/10lbc) Think Chicken...
knowingwhatIknow
The Terrible Secret of Space
daymonthyear (http://www.daymonthyear.net)

And currently I am working with a band that will either be called No Info or Etiquette and Protocol.

Isn't that Outkast? Or do you mean a less famous famous band?

was in one (garage) band. it was no fun and everyone got on everyone else's tits far too much. plus, we all got tinitus.

problem was, not being in a band after that, i found it really hard to get the motivation to improve (or even play at all nowadays). bah!

friends/flatmates of mine had a fairly decent band going and were gonna do some studio work till they all ended up nearly killing each other :(

Ah, a less famous famous band...

A late seventies Northern Ireland punk band, still fondly remembered for their minor classics Love Is For Sops, You're A Disease and Just Another Teenage Rebel

Only jammed....

Trying to get a band started, but it's extremely difficult to find drummers in particular that share the same taste in music.

No...that's why we changed our name. They are better than we would've been anyway.

As a drummer I understand. I get acosted at every other show and get non-stop e-mails and phone calls to play with other bands. It is kind of annoying really.

Yeah. The few drummers i've played with have mostly been into punk. I mean, I like punk, but I want to expand my horizons a bit from that. I'd learn myself (I don't think it would be too hard...I have a pretty good rhythm sense), but I have no room for a kit.

As a drummer I can tell you that learning yourself if you are over the age of about 14 is difficult. I was lucky, I started at six. You need develop muscles in places you would never otherwise use. The coordination involved is tough too. It isn't just rythym sense.

:D

We only rehearsed twice, but it was worth the mention. I played guitar cause I couldn't play it well. The drummer couldn't really play drums. And our bassist never showed up

When I was in highschool I was in an all girl punk band called "Crackhead Kneel" (it's not supposed to make sense, it was a combo of 2 personal jokes between me and the drummer)

I was also in a band for about 6 months (I got bored with it, when I started dating my hubby) called "Already ready already" (it makes more sense when you say it)

What about your current project with the little people? If they find out you discounted them Smunkee, they are likely to kick you out of the band since you are acting like some kind of solo project having primadonna. ;)

we don't have a name yet, I got demoted to tamborine player (but we don't really play but 2 songs that use one :( )

I guess I really am too old to be in the band, but they said I could be the manager (mostly because I am allowed to use the phone without adult supervision)

I couldnt make a band, nobody apreciates my kind of music. If you would like to learn more about my kind of music google Creole Kings of New Orleans.

you can make a band even if people don't like what you play, my kids and I are in a band (although they are kicking me out) I doubt we ever "make it big" because we are too eclectic.

Hmmmm.... Let's see....
Haven't really had much of a band career, but for what it's worth, in the past, I played keyboards, sang, and/or wrote songs for:

Classical Ugandan Music
(one-off late 80s pop-metal battle of the bands entry - name chosen solely for the acronym, and I had nothing to do with it)

Big Toe
(Punk ska band - Madness meet the Clash. 15 years ago, and still the best band I was ever in)

Patchouli
(Can I just make it clear that I've _never_ chosen the names of any band I've been in? Female vocals alternative light that went nowhere very quickly)

Shoot the Hostage
(Better name. Unmotivated covers band otherwise largely populated by stoners that I only played for once)

The CarParks
(Name quickly used and discarded by me and a friend to record a couple of my power-pop songs in his home 'studio')

Radio Free Europe
(Softish alternative one-off battle of the bands entry. Yes, there was an REM cover, though the other songs were mostly mine)

While it all reads very interestingly, the song is not buffering properly, so you get a flick of static, then nothing. You might want to look into that.\

I played 2 1/2 year in a Band called "reifrock" , they are playing Folk-Rock. Then i left the band together with our bassman, and we found a new formation, but they don´t wanna play my kind of music so i left them in November. Now I have decides to make music on my own. I play so many kinds of instruments and arranged them with cubase. Unfortunally my voice is not as good as it should be to start a great career...:(

Hey! This could be almost me!
Allright I played in bands for more then ten years, but then decided to do my own thing as well. I started recording with a Fostex with a four-track recording system. Nowadays I use Cubasis as well, but additional the Magix Music Maker which is so much more user friendly than Cubasis in my opinion.
And of course I use instruments: 1 Accoustic Guitar, 1 E-Guitar (An old Gibson Flying V) and a Casio Keyboard.

Bands I played in:

- Pure
- Exit
- Sheer Fortuity
- Midnight Carnival
- Die Steigenden Bierpreise ( The Increasing Beer Prices)
- The Northern Lights

Haha...not quite....Jimi Played a right handed guitar upside down. Something I can't quite get the knack of.

A Cort. A relatively obscure brand, but they do make nice guitars.

yeah, but I am not a "real adult", I am like a "cool adult"

actually to be completely honest, I think they would probably be happy with less supervision, but when you can add up the ages of the whole band (sans tamborine player) and they all add up to less than 10, you really have to get an adult on your side that can do stuff for you (like read, use the internet, and you know talk to other grownups)
