Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

DeLay's motion to dismiss the money laundering charges was denied.

I would be satisfied if they only sent half of him to jail.

Um. No. This is seen as a major blow to DeLay. Under House rules, he can't regain his position so long as he is under indictment. He had loudly bragged that all charges would be dismissed.

Doesn't look like a major blow to me.. just because DeLay claimed he'd have total victory (wisely, given that people will mainly remember the sound byte, rather than today's news), doesn't mean he really expected it. He'll walk, even if it takes longer.

I think they should hit him with the RICO Statute.

He can still be Majority Leader, but will just have to leave his post for longer, and it'll be harder for him to get it back. Possibly much harder, but it isn;t yet lost.

Why stop with the RICO?
They should follow up with blunt instruments, then sharp instruments, lemon juice, electrodes, cayenne pepper and then maybe finishing off with that stupid 10 commandments statue that moron was raving about in Alabama.
Squish.

I can imagine the Delay Trial might have to be delayed.

Tom DeLay is an important figure to the Bush [Cheyney] Adminstration/Regime/Corporation. But there are plenty more of them whereever Delay came from, theres always a worse one around the corner.

The major blow is this--he loses his Majority Leader status more permanently. The party will vote for a replacement soon, and the sides are lining up to shove him out of the way for good. That's what happens when you get to the top by knifing everyone in your way--when it's your turn to fall, nobody's there to take a knife for you.

That's why this part wigged me out a bit-
DeLay's legislative power and keen awareness of who is and is not supporting him means that Republicans may avoid voicing doubts about him in public, Southern Methodist University political scientist Cal Jilson said.

"They don't want to move early, because if 'The Hammer' returns, it could come down on them," he said, using a DeLay nickname. "Tom DeLay is a character who inspires fear and admiration in Washington, but fear first."
Yikes. Nice guy they got there.

This is the kind of vindictiveness that makes me wonder why the Republican opposition isn't doing better at the polls. I guess enough losses at the hands of the voters and when you get your chance, you take your pound of flesh -- with a chainsaw.

Oh fuck your holier-than-thou crap, please. If this were the Minority Leader, every pundit in the country would be calling for her to be strung up with her head on a pike and you fucking well know it. What's the story--you can pillory Hillary but can't filet DeLay?

I don't think so. And I don't like your tone. I guess that's another reason the Republican opposition hasn't caught fire with the voting public, huh? Now, if you clean up your language, maybe we can discuss.

Now, what was it that Cheney said to Leahy again?

Myrm, Repubs got control and promptly shot themselves in the foot. Hope you enjoyed the conservative revolution. It's over now. A couple of elections and it will be a distant memory.

Like I give a shit if you like my tone. Your party has gotten us into an unnecessary war, failed to institute real homeland security, run the deficit to record heights, aided and abetted torture, lied, cheated and stolen taxpayer dollars and destroyed our international standing, and you're worried about my fucking tone? If I thought that you might be willing to listen to anything I had to say, that you'd venture away from your talking points for a moment, then I might consider toning it down, but for you? Not a chance in hell, bub.

It's simple--if you don't like my tone, put me on your ignore list.
