Some loud music is good (such as Rammstein), and when it's supposed to be played loudly it's good. However, if it's not supposed to be played loudly 'tis not good, alot of music that's supposed to be played loud pretty much sucks. Also, there is such as thing as TOO loud (you try listenening to Amerika on full blast on your iPod with those little nub things in your ear; if you don't feel that's either painful or just too insanely loud you are deaf.)

like i listen to drum n bass pretty loud when i'm driving, and when i have the windows down people probably think there's some kind of aggressive chav in a shitty shitmobile with a badly fitted bodykit about to pull up next to them and race them off the lights... only to be suprised to see its a nice clean, black corsa being driven by some longhaired hippie :p :D

The summer I learned to drive a bunch of my cousins and I were driving around together in my dad's car, and we pulled up at a red light next to some punk kid around our age blaring some "music" very loudly and head-bashing to it. We had on Mozart. We turned up our radio full blast, which was a good bit louder than his full blast since my dad likes to play his classical music and opera full blast and had an expensive loud radio, and we started head bashing to Mozart. For some reason he looked at us like we were absolutely nuts, turned his radio down, and drove off as fast as he could when the light changed.

I like loud music, but just not loud enough for it to hurt my ears. And my ears aren't damaged from too much loud music, so that's a lot easier than it is for most people.

It's a protest against the mob mentality that gives groups like the KKK their power. "Fuck no, I won't do what you tell me" = "I'm not going along with this mob".

If I listened to music solely on the basis of how other people perceive it, my collection would be pretty shallow. In fact, I probably never would have got into music, seeing as RATM was the first band that made me "wow".

Though...I have two friends who like me are huge RATM fans, and that's how they also interpret the song (we've discussed it before :p). I don't think it's a viewpoint shared by most fans; casual radio listeners and wannabe-metalhead-teenie-boppers, maybe.

For some reason...this thread reminded me of a song I used to love (more live than on cd)...

MIGHTY MIGHTY BOSSTONES

"Awfully Quiet"

I like noise that's why I'm livin' where I am.
I like the noise and confusion of a traffic jam.
I like the sound of a jet as it's shakin' my dwellin'.
I like ragin', rampagin', and screamin' and yellin'.
Sound of a fire engine headed for a fire,
Emotions so high they can't get any higher.
Goin' out of control in an outta-hand crowd.
I like noise and it's gotta be loud.
Awfully quiet on the streets yesterday.
People on the streets had little to say.
I walked the streets and barely heard a sound.
It was awfully quiet on the streets downtown
Sometimes quiet's okay, sometimes quiet's alright.
Given the choice, I like noise, morning, noon, and night.
Awfully quiet on the trains last night.
People on the trains kept the conversation light.
I rode the trains and barely heard a word,
Quietest train I ever heard
Sometimes quiet's okay, sometimes quiet's alright.
Given the choice, I like noise, morning, noon, and night.
It was awfully quiet and I needed some noise.
I got on the phone called up the boys.
I was jonesing so bad, I could barely hack it.
They came to the house and kicked up a racket.
They turned my place on its ear, the boys began to riot.
It felt so good to hear on a day that was so quiet.
I screamed and cheered them on,
And helped out where I could.
And when they all were gone, I was feeling good.
