Madison - People would not be able to take guns into hospitals, day care centers and youth sporting events under a modified concealed weapons bill adopted Wednesday by a state legislative committee.
Rep. Dean Kaufert (R-Neenah), co-chairman of the Joint Finance Committee, said the new restrictions improved the bill, and others expressed hope that the changes would garner enough support from legislators to override Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle's promised veto of the measure.
Doyle was traveling Wednesday and unavailable for comment, but spokeswoman Melanie Fonder said the governor still planned to veto the measure.
