No, unfourtunatly nobody was pushed off the a fourty story building and left dangling by a webcam cord until help arrived (although that would be neat :P)

http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/europe/11/18/internet.rescue.ap/index.html

I saw this on CNN (on the TV), and thought it was interesting. The gist of the story is this:
Guy living in the Phillipines tries to contact his mother via webcam (or leaves the webcam on, as they said in the TV-version), guy sees his mother lying on the couch in an odd position, guy calls relatives in Norway, Norwegians call local 911, 911 goes to house, 911 saves guys mom whilst talking to him over AIM O_o

Hooray :P

*hangs head as he throws his webcam away*

*jumps off building*

...

*...only to have his leg caught on the webcam's wire due to clumsy and depressing acts of throwing-away*

Yes, I love technology, but not as much as you, you see.
But I still love technology, always and forever.

Hey, its Norway. From what Ive seen on NS its the most technologically, socialy etc. etc. advanced country on the planet, aside from Sweden and possibly Canada.
They most likely had a phone dedicated specifically to calling American services.
