I said maybe for the same reason I'm agnostic. If there IS a deity, then I won't presume to be so egotistical as to think I could possibly understand anything with such power.

Hell yeah! Why the hell would I want to pray to some dude who's been dead for 2 thousand years who obviously had mental problems? I'm also a pothead! ;)

Didn't your mom ever teach you not to judge a book by its cover? :D

Nope. Someone else did, but I never pay attention. Besides, I'm chuck full of prejudice.
agnostic and atheist arent the same thing.
Noone said they are. SN just happens to be an agnostic atheist - like most atheists.

Speaking of, am I the only one who wonders why the reasonable people are usually agnostics - whether they're theists or not?

I guess you must define them a bit differently, then, because atheist and agnostic really aren't compatible. "Agnostic" means, essentially, "don't know", as in "I don't know if there is a God or not, so I'm not going to commit to a position." Whereas "atheist" means "no god" - it's a positive assertion that there is no God, which is quite different from an admission that one doesn't know.

An "agnostic atheist" would therefore be someone who says "I don't know if there is a God or not, therefore there is no God." I realize that there are, in fact, a lot of people who do say exactly that - logical consistency is not one of humanity's strong suits. But the fact that people hold contradictory beliefs does not make them any more compatible.

I dont wonder at all. Seems to me that religion requires blind faith, which is diametrically opposed to rational thought. So, naturally, those who try to think rationally find that they can't accept religion on faith alone.

And rational people also realize that if there IS a god, our puny little brains would never be able to completely grasp the concept. They admit that such things cannot be known with logical certainty.

I agree with religion requiring blind faith, and I voted yes in the poll to believing that there is more after death regardless of what religion you lived by.

However, I'm wondering if by what you said, you're drawing the conclusion that all rational thinkers are incapable of believeing in said religions because they choose not to grasp the idea of faith. From what I've seen, those that choose to think in a rational manner, often come out with a better understanding of what they believe in. As opposed to those who believe out of conformity, or random selection.

"Is There a Bofore Life an After Life???"

There seems to be considerable anecdotal evidence for reincarnation, but it doesn't seem to be amenable to scientific inquiry. :)

Someone compared life to a bird, flying through the night. The brief moment it flew through a house was life. Then it was all dark again...

Now who said that?

You're right. We have different definitions. Basically it comes down to you not knowing what the word agnosticism means. No offence.

Being agnostic about it doesn't say anything about your belief. It just says that you don't think it's possible to know for certain whether there's something divine or not.

So basically, you're either a theist or an atheist. There is no 'third' option, because not being a theist means that you're an atheist. It is equally possible (and normal) to be an agnostic theist & atheist. In fact, most religions teaches that true faith must be agnostic - the Catholic Church included.

Agnostic means one does not know whether there is a god (or many gods) or not. There are a variety of kinds of agnostics too, just like there are a variety of atheists and theists.

An agnostic is one who doesn't know, or doesn't believe it's possible to know, whether divinity exists or not.

You can be agnostic about pretty much anything, it isn't limited to stuff about divinity.

Yes, of course.

It is from Paradise we all came and it is to Paradise we shall all return.
