Who Here Uses Eye Correction?

Bolol

Ach, the human eye is fragile indeed. Sometimes it's reversible, sometimes it isn't

What I'd like to know is how many people hear require some form of vision correction.

Personally, I wear glasses. I could use contact lenses (most people in my school use them as opposed to frames), but I like the look...it makes me look like a brainiac!

That's not usually a good thing.

Anyway, I wear glasses. Can't stand contacts, and lasik is too expensive. Planning on having it done eventually.

I need glasses to focus clearly on things which are far off.

Nearsighted, I believe it makes me.

I'll probably have laser surgery done in ten or so years when its been demonstrated that all the laser surgery recipients dont go blind.

Until then, I have no problem with glasses.

p.s. as for the OQ.. does wearing glasses without needing eye correction count?

i have noticed quite a few (thread) mentioning on "emo" kids, but have so far not been all too successful in finding out what exactly constitutes an "emo". which hinders me a rather lot from answering your question.

but in case it helps, i have done that since i was about 5 years of age. and it's not for the benefit of fitting in with any kind of "group" or anything.

p.s. Fass, quit posting random swedish words! i feel left out, okay?

Contact Lenses. Glasses are just a pain... they slip off the nose, they fog over, they don't allow for a full visual field, I kept having to search them all over the house, they get smudged just by looking at them, they can break, etc.

Contacts are so much easier to handle and to wear.

one hell of a book that must be. i am supposed to have perfect vision and i wouldn't be anywhere near to able to do that. sure you got the measuring unit right?

I was just guessing the distance, and meters is what we use here. But I still doubt I'll need to read a whole lot while driving, quite the opposite in fact.

i know swedes use the metric system :D

but now imagine..100 meters..that's..60 european women of average european height. and no, my country doesn't measure length in standardized women, but my request to do so i lodged. at least, you can visualize things that way and mistakes when guessing distances are a lot less likely to happen.

you got to do the test involving letters? *envy*

i used to do that one when i was a kid (i forced my parents to get me to visit the optician (<- ??) every couple of months in order to see whether i might get to have glasses yet) and i LOVED them!

when i took the one for my driver's license it only involved circles that had openings at different positions and i had to say where they were. extremely boring. i want the letters back!

I had Lasik surgery done in one eye this past June, so I don't need glasses for reading. I love it. I had glasses since first grade; I am now 56. It is wonderful. I would do it again in a heart beat.

Wow, your experience with contacts is so much different than mine. I find contacts painful, or they come out of my eye to easily, they're hard to clean, and damn near impossible to find on the bathroom floor if you drop one.

On the other hand, the other member of my household wears them all the time, and rarely wears his glasses in public.

Yeah I am supposed to wear corrective lenses(as stated on my Drivers liscense)..However, I really don't need them anymore. Amazingly enough, my vision has become a heck of a lot better, no surgery or anything. however, the DMV doens't accept a miracle as correcting of the eyes..so i still carry my glasses in my car.

EMO kids are people who listen to EMO punk, or emotional punkrock. They can be identified normally by their rather tight clothes, fake thick framed glasses and black dyed straight shag hair. Most wear converse allstars and zip-up hoodies. Some also bear a striking resemblence to metro-sexuals. I wear glasses, up until a year ago i had perfect vision. So i plan to get lasik as soon as possible.

glasses ever since i was about 10

can't wear contacts cos i have "poor tear quality", meaning moisture in my eyes dries up/evaporates in about half the time as is usual (about 2 seconds rather than 4 if i remember right), and as a result contacts dry out real fast on me and i can only wear them for an hour or two before they become painful. really can't be bothered with that anymore (tried for over a year), so now i'm back to good ol' glasses. which i hate

going to get corrective surgery as soon as i can. over here it seems they won't let you have it till you're over 23 though :(

i also have this weird thing called irlen's syndrome or Scotopic Sensitivity, which isn't strictly speaking an optical problem but a perceptual one, but thats splitting hairs.

It is a problem with how the nervous system encodes and decodes visual information. Academic and work performance, behavior, attention, ability to sit still and concentration can be affected. Individuals with this problem see the printed page differently, although they may not realize that they do. Having Irlen Syndrome keeps many people from reading effectively, efficiently, or even at all.

Individuals with Irlen Syndrome must constantly adapt to distortions appearing on the printed page. They may be slow or inefficient readers, exhibit poor comprehension, suffer from strain, fatigue or headaches. In less severe cases, these misperceptions do not occur (are not "seen") but the brain expends more energy to interpret the images than is required by most people.

(hypothetical) neurological explaination: http://www.readingandwriting.ab.ca/judypool/irlen.htm#cause
more info: http://www.irlen.com/sss_main.htm

the "treatment" is to wear specially filtered lenses to block out the specific wavelengths of light that bother you (and not just "tint" the light as per normal coloured sunglasses). sadly i still haven't got mine yet :(

For good reason. If you do it too early you run the risk of having it performed while your vision quality is still changing as a result of the growth of your eyes, which means after the surgery is done your vision could continue to degrade before stabilizing... and it's not the kind of thing you want to keep going back in for touch-ups for since when you do it you're giving up some of the thickness of your cornea.

Glasses. I don't and won't wear contacts because the idea of sticking something into my eye is appealing. Plus I'm paranoid about them getting stuck.
Surgery isn't appealing either, as they have to clamp your eye open to do it.

I've worn glasses since kindergarten. I wore contacts for about five years, but the last time I got my eyes checked, I couldn't afford both glasses and contacts, so I went with just glasses. I'll probably get contacts sometime in the future, especially now that I have insurance.

I wore contacts for a few years and went back to glasses because I find them to be easier - just put them on and go as opposed to hunting all over my bathroom floor for my contact lens. Besides, my glasses tint to the light - if it's bright, they turn into sunglasses.

I can't read a stop sign without glasses; I am probably legally blind. My mother was the same way before she got laser eye surgery and all she needs is reading glasses. I give myself about 10 years before I do the same.
