Should I turn in my neighbor's "illegal" dog?

A neighbor got a puppy recently. It's against the rules for the building (it's dorm style).
She's an annyoying person, the dog barks a lot, and the rooms are way too small to have a dog (she never takes it out, AFAIK).
I like dogs, but this one is getting on my nerves.
Should I?

Yes. If the owner of the dog is irresponsible enough to allow it to bark incessantly and doesn't even take it out for some exercise you should report it. If the dog owner were responsible, even though it's against the rules I'd have told you to mind your own business.
you have the right to not be annoyed by something illegal

Yes you should report it. My neighbors finally got their barking dog under control as they knew I was very close to taking legal action. Also, if she is not taking it out and you are in a dorm, there are health issues.

wait a while to see if someone else will do it. that way you get what you want and can still tsk tsk at whoever did it.

She's had it a couple of weeks.

Wait a while, and see if it grows out of being an annoying, barking puppy :)
But then, how long has she had it so far? Long enough that you're _certain_ she's not just looking after it for someone, right? Can you be sure she neve takes it out? If she doesn't, it's unhygenic and cruelty to the poor dug - report the situation.

If she's annoying as in you can't stand her voice, or you hate her clothes, then it's a piss poor excuse. If she's annoying as in she is a bad person, or is rude and ignorant, then turn her ass in!
Either way, you have the right to do it, but don't do it only to get even with her, if you have no legit reason to not like her. Just my $.02
BTW - I would have called the first day. Barking puppies are nails on a chalkboard to me! :headbang:

I do not think anything anyone says or does here will influance you. It's a matter of what you think is right, you will not get a majority here.

Dogs are bound to bark no matter what, but if she's not taking it out than it is serious. It's fair to the dog to warn your friend that you may take some action, and if she doesn't change her behavior you should definitely report her.

I would report her. When you moved in, it was understood that there wouldn't be any pets, and now your quality of life is going down, because someone broke the rules. Your landlord really needs to know.

I'd say, shoot, skin and cook the dog in lard and sell it to illegal immigrants.
No, just quietly poison it in the night after leaving threatening messages written in dog's blood pinned to her door with knives.
I think so. I have a 10 month old Rottweiler who's a little guard dog (barks at shit she doesn't like, but is otherwise quiet), and take responsibility for walking her and making sure I live somewhere appropriate. Sounds like she isn't ready to own a pup anyway.

now your neighbour has a dog there is no reason for you not to get one (if anyone asks just say your neighbour has one)
seriously how could you force a cute little puppy out of its home because you don't like it making noise your worse than Hitler (too dogs anyway)
Don't contribute to oppression unnecessarily. Japan already has more than enough of it.

yes, he'd be killing the dog after having it removed...
If the dog isn't taken out, yes, report it. And the constant barking. Those 'cute little puppies' grow up to be be dogs that bark louder sometimes. bah.

A better question is why wouldn't you? If its against the rules of the building then the dog needs to go and you have every right to be annoyed. Why would you even consider not saying anything? All it takes is a phone call, pick up the phone and get it over with. This isnt even a moral issue.

Yes it is.
To do so would make you a busy-body nosey asshole, who would freely ruin a sacred bond between dog and master.
I hope the next time you break a rule or two someone rats you out without hesitation.
As for me, I would try talking to the person, and ask them to make the puppy stop barking so much.
If that doesnt work, then rat them out if you must.

What about the sacred and might I add legal binding contract between said master and landlord. She is breaking her contract and disturbing the peace. I would contact the landlord NOW. What gives her the right to bother her fellow tenants?
Plus if she's not taking the dog out then the dog's quality of life might not be worth living.
And most likely it will go to a pound and since it's a puppy it will get adobted. Don't wait until it's grown. then it's chances lower for adoption.

You would be nosey if the dog wasnt affecting you. But in this case it is. You shouldn't have to suffer because someone refuses to follow the rules. This isnt a situation where they saw a dog and are butting in on something that isnt any of their business. When that dog started barking and bothering you, it became your business. There is nothing nosey about it and it is not a moral question.

I can't even imagine how this is even an issue for someone with even the slightest amount of common sense. It is obvious by saying the dog barks constantly, that the problem will take care of itself soon enough. Why would you earn a reputation as a common RAT, and place your identity as one, at the mercy of the landlords discretion? Is it your job to seek out those doing things in their own homes the management doesn't approve of? Is it your desire to universally despised in the eyes of those living around you? Guess who will be the first person to have fingers pointed at in the future, if your other neighbors have reason to believe that you will snitch on them if they do anything the management doesn't approve of?

Didnt you hear the part about the dog barking incessantly? The more likely reaction by the neighbors will be silent cheering and comments like "it's about time someone did something about that stupid dog!". If he/she can hear it, so can all the other neighbors. It isnt very likely that everyone else likes the sound of dogs barking except for him/her. It is much more likely everyone is sick of it and will be glad that it was finally taken care of.
I would threaten to have her evicted if she did not engage in wild depraved acts with me.
Uh.. I mean the tenant, not the dog.
Well... how cute is the dog?

I read it quite clearly, and if a bit of yapping by a puppy is enough to set your nerves on end you have other issues best delt with by the family doctor. If it is still a problem after proper treatment then you have the decency to go talk to the neighbor and explain your position.
Whether or not people are glad to see the dog reported is not even an issue. Regardless of the mutual glee you belive will be the result, the label of RAT will still be applied with all the distrust, dislike and contempt such a creature so richly deserves.
Down the road the conversation will be as follows..."Yeah, I didn't like that dog either but I'm no snitch."
The dog may go, and the tennet may too, but he/she will still wear the badge of the cowardly rat.

maybe the OP lives in the ghetto though........;)
I do, well not technically, I live in the neighborhood inbetween the rich people and the ghetto, you know the solid middle class, everyone has to work, most everyone lives paycheck to paycheck area.
anyway, I called the pound on my neighbor's dog repeatedly, it hasn't brought any real problems between me and them (she is still excited about her dog having my dog's babies)
I wouldn't even talk to your neighbor though, if they are breaking the rules and making life suck, then you have to do something about it, you can't rely on them to fix it (they are rule-breakers afterall)

Ghetto huh. You are very funny, but I realize that personal insults are necessary when trying to justify becoming an unpaid informant. People do not respect snitches regardless of where their economic situation dictates they live.
I would spank her bum with a rolled up newspaper until either her dog stopped barking or she started.
