A friend of mine is starting her Christmas-time baking and decided to create her own Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls. So here is her recipe.
After listening to Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls enough times it occurs to me that I can make these. Well, actually you can't just on the lyrics. For instance how much is a bag or two of sugar? how long do you bake? Chef just burned his...
So: based on the songs and adapted to be a REAL recipe, here are Chef's Chocolate Salty Balls a new holiday tradition in the family (cuz I tried one and DAMN their good. ;)
2tbsp Cinnamon
1 egg
1/2 c sugar
1/2 c butter (softened)
1 c chocolate chips (melted)
1/2 of brandy (I used rum, cuz that's what we drink)
1/2 tsp of Vanilla
4 c flour
1/2 c sugar and 1/2 c salt for coating
So you beat everything up to the flour together... nice chocolatey mess :) very liquid. then add the flour 1/2 c at a time. You want to make the dough stiff enough to form into balls but not too dry. Look a lot like Mr. Henky when it's right. ;)
Form into balls, roll in mixture of salt and sugar. Place on greased cookie sheet and bake 10-15 min at 350F.
My first batch I rolled in straight salt as the lyrics didn't call for any salt at all. They're all right but I think halving the salt with sugar would be perfect. Enjoy!
Makes ~15 pairs of balls (depending on the size of your balls of course). ;)
