Your Anger Therapy

Bolol

Anger can galvanize you to action, can help vent excess stress, and can scare the shit out of some people.

But anger is not always healthy. If kept inside it can eat you alive. You gotta open up and get all that bad karma out of there.

Personally, I write out all my thoughts which in effect puts my anger into physical form. I can then do whatever I wish with it.

What do you do...?

I plot the destruction of those around me.
So far I have about 200 plans for the extermination of my roomie, simply because he somehow hits that magic combination of exposure and annoyance that can only be generated by living with someone you haven't known your whole life and aren't banging.
Anyway, the planning is incredibly relaxing, especially when you spend about an hour researching a particularly gruesome or intricate method and how best to pull it off.

If my husband is around I vent to him, until he gets tired of hearing it and says "grow the fuck up smunkee!!!!!" then I go pout in my room for about 10 min, and realize that I should grow up, and then I go apologize to my husband, and he laughs, and I laugh..............

If he isn't around then I write down all the stuff I am mad about and then tear it up into little peices.

One of two things usually happens with me. I either ignore it until the issue has gotten on my last nerve, blow up and yell at the top of my voice for about ten minutes and then it's gone *poof* like nothing ever happened OR I sit down, try to figure out what the root of the problem is, seperate real issues from the imaginary and then discuss how I feel about the situation with whomever is the subject of my frustration for about five hours or more. I haven't figured out which is best, yet.

Personally, I write out all my thoughts which in effect puts my anger into physical form. I can then do whatever I wish with it.

What do you do...?
First thing one needs to do, is figure out WHY they are angry.

Second, one needs to figure out what part they played in WHY they are angry.

Third, one needs to understand that they themselves are ultimately responsible for their own happiness.

Fourth, one needs to understand that thoughtfully praying for the individual(s) that angered you is probably the best way to rid oneself of the anger/resentment/hatred.

I have seen people here on these boards expressing anger/hatred/rage against individuals that was born 20, 30, 40 years ago. That is totally unhealthy for those individuals.

Fifth and most important is forgiveness (http://www.guidetopsychology.com/forgive.htm):

Anyone who has ever been victimized—and that includes victims of crime, accident victims, adult survivors of childhood abuse, political prisoners, and so on—must decide whether or not to forgive the perpetrator. There can be no middle ground to this decision: either you decide to forgive the person who hurt you, or you hold on to bitterness and anger.

Holding on to bitterness and anger can cause problems of their own, so if you have ever been victimized, being able to forgive your victimizer is a crucial part of your healing.

Your choice. For me, the choice is clear.

It very much depends on HOW angry I am.

If Im only a little pissed, I simply work on my ongoing plans to take over the world.
...baby steps, man, baby steps.

If Im good and mad, and usually twitch a bit, and breathe regularly, so as not to stomp anyone(thing).
Immediately following I curse a blue streak in the air.
This is especially fun for the kids, and Im always asked to get pissed on the 4th of july.
I usually oblige.

If Im really pissed, something, preferably an inamimate object, must suffer my wrath.
Take THAT exspensive item, I will later regret breaking!

If Im beyond that, and am blowing Warsnot kinda pissed, I usually have a spastic come-apart, and proceed to make all living things, including myself suffer greatly.
Afterwich, we progress down the aforementioned steps, until I come back to furthering my goal of world domination.

Its a lengthy process.
