Anyone here ever been/go there? Or knows someone who went/goes there?

I'm interested in doing this (http://www.paisley.ac.uk/courses/ug-courseinfo.asp?courseid=379) course, and thought it'd be a good idea to see if anyone here knows the Uni well. Or even does the course.

Thanks in advance.

Not Ian Paisley, Northern Irish bigot?
www.ianpaisley.orgI hate the man politically, but I think his reputation as a bigot is unfair. Most of my extended family - officially Catholics - live in his constituency, and he has done a lot of work for them. I think his official line is that he dislikes the Catholic religion, and the associated Northern Ireland politics, but he has no problem with people of such a persuasion personally. I personally sincerely dislike the Catholic church myself, but then again I hate Paisley's too.

OK, sorry - Paisley University. I've never been there, but a friend of mine from school went and loved it. Different course from the one you've cited, so I couldn't comment on that, but she loved the city. Apparently it has a great nightlife, great people and the university is a decent one with good graduate employment rates. Good luck!

I go to Paisley Uni. Not on the course you're looking at though. It's a good university and in my experience the teaching staff are almost always available to help out with any problems. There's also a good number of clubs and societies you may be interested in joining. And of course it's only a short train journey into Glasgow.

Well it all seems good so far, so I'm nearly convinced it's a good idea going there. I'm even considering taking Higher Physics to improve my chances of getting in.

Question remains, when should I apply? I think I'm too late to apply to start there next year, that leaves a few options:

1. Leave at end of 5th year (which I'm in), take gap-year then apply to start in 2007.
2. Stay on for 6th year (maybe do physics), then apply to start in 2007.
3. Stay on for 6th year (maybe do physics), take gap-year then apply to start in 2008.

Desicions, desicions.

I think 3 is the best idea, yet that runs the risk of the course ending by the time I apply. Unlikely though.

I've still got time to think about it, and I'm sure I'll come to the right desicion in time.

I don't think you are to late to apply to start next year. Assuming scottish people (you are scottish, right?) apply through ucas. The website says applications need to be in by the 15th of January (http://www.ucas.co.uk/getting/deadlines/index.html)

Yes, I am.

The 15th, eh? Thanks.

However, I'm not too sure applying for Uni before I even do the prelims is the best choice. Still, it is worth considering and I thank ye again for it.

There is also a chance that you could on to the course through 'clearing'. What that means is that if all the places on the course haven't been filled, they will accept late entries. Another thing you might want to consider is trying to arrange a meeting with the course leader. You may be able to get a tour of the facilites and he/she will also be able to advise you about which subjects would be most useful if you go back to school for a 6th year.

There is also a chance that you could on to the course through 'clearing'.This is true, but I think you need to have filed a UCAS application - regardless of whatever university options you accepted, declined or whatever on the initial form - to be eligible for clearing. At least that's how it was when I was going through the process back in September 2001. Have you made a UCAS application?

Never been there.
