There's a Suicide Bombers ~ Scandinavian Bosnia Connection? Who knew?.

http://www.iht.com/bin/print_ipub.php?file=/articles/2005/11/27/news/bosnia.php

What is it with those Scandinavians cultivating a generation of insurgents and hate-mongers anyway? Must be all the 'peace and love' and acceptance of others shit that really breeds them eh?

It doesn't look like the people in question were successful at becoming an integral part of Swedish life and culture - so they left and went elsewhere to find their roots.

It's hardly Sweden's fault, though I have it on good authority that even if you're white, but not Swedish, you will never really be accepted as a Swede.

LOL, not sure about 2 and 3 though, they might be interchangable and tied for 2nd :D

Religious fanaticism is worldwide.

Even here in America some anti-abortioners turn themselves into terrorists by bombing clinics.

That had better be some damn good authority, seeing as there are about nine million Swedes spread out over an area slightly larger than California.

Multiple immigrants from Russia who never felt welcome there. Oh, Swedes were nice, but you knew that you would never "Be" a Swede. Always a Russian who happened to be a Swedish citizen.

All of them say the only country you can go to and "Be" is America. They went to Sweden and then to France and then to the US.

Still, the leap to "no non-Swedish person could ever feel Swedish if they moved there" is quite impressive. Have you considered trying your skills in the next Olympic games?

Funnily enough, not being able to "be" German didn't make them leave Germany...

Assimilation seems to be a European problem.

Assimilation seems to be a European problem.

Yep. No European nation ever considered it until the last few decades. It simply wasn't necessary, as there were no immigrants. Politicians can come up with a multitude of solutions, but it does take some time to convince the public...

The interesting thing is, it's far worse in small towns and rural areas, that have fewer to no immigrants at all. If they've never seen a non-national, chances are they think they feel the "influence of foreign cultures" the most.

You think?

The endemic racism in America isn't exactly solved so far as I can make out- and it didn't seem that many people thought it was sorted in New Orleans.

If you mean cultural rather than colour issues, you may or may not be right, I really don't know. But London is the second most cosmopolitan city in the world, and seems to get by pretty well. I think you are making the same mistake as many Europeans make when they talk about the US. Big place, lots of different attitudes and opinions.

The more I hear about Bosnia the more I start to think we should have left Milosevich alone.
Oh, brilliant. Those fundamentalist fathers, sons and husbands in Srebrenica and those violent islamists in Banja Luka and Zepa deserved to be killed en masse just because some Bosnian immigrants today might have something to do with Al Qaida.
Wake up. Ratko Mladic (who extended the term "meze" to describe his killings) and Milosevic have been claiming to have proof of fundamentalist ideology in the Balkans. That claim is gross: 99% of Muslim Bosnians have backed staying in Yugoslavia, only, because of Milosevic and Tudjman, Yugoslavia was no more (unless it was a euphemism for ethnically cleansed Serbia).
There was a link established between some between certain Bosnian activists and Iran. Three comments on this must stand out:
1. linking Iran to Al Qaida is sheer stupidity (see the Al Qaida-backed Sunnis in Iraq - and even in Iran's "Arabistan")
2. support was available when no other country would side with the legitimate gvt of Bosnia
3. accepting support does not mean becoming Iranian (and again, as said in point 1, this would not be as bad as Al Qaida)

Definitely a problem in France.

And the "endemic" racism is not endemic. It depends on where you are in the US. Washington, DC and the metro area around it is pretty cosmopolitan (in fact, it's interesting to see foreigners from places like India be more racist to American blacks than anything I ever saw in the South).
