Christmas Cards!

Well, I just got my first Christmas card of the year - a very nice one, in fact, from President and Mrs. Bush.. :p Yeah, I know they mass-mail them, but it had a nice print of an oil painting done of a winter scene outside the White House on the cover (with the Scottish terriers running about in the snow and everything, kinda neat), and the President's Seal on the inside in gold foil, above a bit of Psalm 28.. Anyway, I'm probably the ten-millionth person to get the identical card, but it was still a damned good one, and kinda made me reappraise the cards I'm planning on sending out... :( They're kinda weak by comparison..

So, my plan is to wait for more cards to come, as they should be quite soon, and choose my style of card from those... kinda play it safe, rather than over-do it, or perhaps under-do it.. But I'm still curious as to what kind of cards everyone here sends.. what's appropriate? And what kind do you like to receive? Do you have a family tradition, or do you mix it up each year? Do you end up with a good variety of cards on your mantle, or are they usually businesslike, more echoing form-letters than personal best wishes? I ask because Christmas cards are really one of the few remaining common forms of written, pen-and-ink communication, and that's something that interests me. I hope I'm not the only one. :)

I say just reuse the Bush Mass Mail card. If anyone asks say through some kind of alseimer's related Florida ballot confusion, you're now POTUS...

Problem is, I only have one of those.. I have a good dozen or so to send. I'm still stuck with a decision at the end of the day. :p

I usually send whatever is on sale that says something halfway coherent, but this year, I am letting my kids get out the glue and glitter and I am shoving whatever they make (no matter how sticky and shiney) into envelopes and mailing them off, either that or I will do the played out family newsletter thing (I had some pretty brag-worthy stuff happen this year)

We've ordered our x-mas cards through the NRA for the last 3 years. Any extra we pick up a few from Wally world.

Poorly photocopy it or kill all but one of your friends and family...

We do one of those annual newsletter things. Actually, it's kind of biannual, or triannual. We just do it whenever.

Otherwise, we send religious Christmas cards, usually purchased from the Columbian Squires. They're high quality, not terribly expensive, and are a great fundraiser for the Squires.

I like this plan. I'm a huge supporter of child labour...

That's cool.. I'll have to look them up.. my original plan was a sort-of family portrait thing with the digital camera and photographic paper.. but I'm not sure it'd look good on the cover, and I'm not sending cards to anyone I haven't seen in a long time.. so the photo might be kinda unnecessary, I think. Ah, well..
