Well, I just got my first Christmas card of the year - a very nice one, in fact, from President and Mrs. Bush.. :p Yeah, I know they mass-mail them, but it had a nice print of an oil painting done of a winter scene outside the White House on the cover (with the Scottish terriers running about in the snow and everything, kinda neat), and the President's Seal on the inside in gold foil, above a bit of Psalm 28.. Anyway, I'm probably the ten-millionth person to get the identical card, but it was still a damned good one, and kinda made me reappraise the cards I'm planning on sending out... :( They're kinda weak by comparison..
So, my plan is to wait for more cards to come, as they should be quite soon, and choose my style of card from those... kinda play it safe, rather than over-do it, or perhaps under-do it.. But I'm still curious as to what kind of cards everyone here sends.. what's appropriate? And what kind do you like to receive? Do you have a family tradition, or do you mix it up each year? Do you end up with a good variety of cards on your mantle, or are they usually businesslike, more echoing form-letters than personal best wishes? I ask because Christmas cards are really one of the few remaining common forms of written, pen-and-ink communication, and that's something that interests me. I hope I'm not the only one. :)
