The Darkness

I am going to admit something here that may sound uncool. I am a massive fan of The Darkness! And with their long-awaited second album out today, I just want to gauge some opinions from my fellow NSers on this band.

For my own two cents; I believe they have brought some much needed light relief to contermporary rock music, while at the same time providing some genuinely brilliant tunes (which is what it's all about at the end of the day).

But what do you think?

i think they've brought a bit of fun back into the pop-rock genre, very much needed with the glut of wanky and overly serious bands around at the mo. and they do play some decently catchy tunes, too :)

give us a review of the new album when you get it cos i might actually bother getting it myself

Same here! I listened to it so much during my last year of university, and we played it at least once at every party we had. Having said that though the latest single doesnt sound quite so good as the last few, having said that i'll probably buy the album anyway because I liked the last one so much.

i think justin hawkins is a dickhead (not to mention 50 years old).

cock rock is shit.

i hate the way they are always called the best band from east anglia (nothing could be further from the truth).

they are an embarassment.

I saw a video of them and their image didn't impress me, but I haven't paid attention to their music.

and thats what got me so sick of them/the first album at uni. every party, every club, every night out... in fact everywhere you went they had the same two bloody songs playing! it was overplayed to death, and i got sick of it, but with a couple of years to calm down over that, i'm ready for more :P

Yea, that's true.

They still rock though...

Yeah, i can understand that. I think it was rather overplayed because it was so different and in the end only the people who really liked it to start off with werent sick of it in the end. Hopefully that wont happen this time though.

Best thing about The Darkness was when Johnny Walker (Radio 2) accidentally played the wrong track from the album, and had to apologise to anyone offended afterwards :D

They're listenable. I have the first album, but it's okay. I imagine I'll get the 2nd at some point.

I think they're fantastic. I love Queen and AC/DC, and I see a lot of those two (among others) in their music. It's also a bit of light relief; they're not pretending to be tortured artists or something like some rockers - they just want to have fun and make music that's good to listen to (unlike most of the samey shite that permeates today's charts ). I've been to see them twice to date, and each time they were excellent! Going again in January.
