"Black Friday"

Black Friday is the day after thanksgiving here in the US. Retailers would offer mad bargains that turns people into wild animals. So who went shopping on "Black Friday?" I personally didn't go since I didn't feel like getting up at 2 in the morning just to get trampled to death by rabid shoppers hunting for the $400 laptop.

Funny thing about that laptop--it was only discounted $12 off the regular price. For $12 people went apeshit and trampled each other. If that doesn't give you a smapshot as to what's wrong with our society, I don't know what else will.

I went shpping at around 3:30 for a couple items. I got some nice warm jammies and a sweatshirt from Old Navy (I love the fleece) and hit up another store for miscellaneous items. Thankfully, we ran into no craziness. I really hate shopping, especially during the mad holiday rushes.

Actually, the busiest day of the year is December 18th, a week before Christmas. I don't shop at stores on either day but do shop online to take advantage of discounts.

I stayed home and played City of Villains. I had to choose between helplessly dealing with insanity and wanting to smash people's faces in and avoiding the insanity while smashing people's faces in. Not a hard choice, twas fun! :D

I actually like shopping on Black Friday, it makes me feel like I'm part of a crowd. I also saw a computer, it was originally $500 and they were selling them for only $150.

I worked black Friday from 4:15 AM to half-past 1 AM the next day at Circuit City... and that was crazy. We had people get trampled, people fighting and just overall insanity happen all day...

lol! I checked the stats on the $400 laptop Wal-Mart was selling, it's average at best, well at least from the perspective of a long time PC gamer.

Yea, Walmart has a thing for that, selling cheap stuff even cheaper. Who can pass that up?

I did most of my shopping months ago -- everything is now wrapped and/or about to be shipped.

Funny enough, I didn't go near stores because Black Friday was INSANE -- you could see traffic jams and filled parking lots -- but Saturday and Sunday were deserted. Guess when I picked up my last few things? ;)

Walmart isn't all that much cheaper anymore; at least not in their videogames.

Eg. a game at walmart costs 49.88, while a game at EBgames costs 49.99.
WOw 11 cents.

I don't like Walmart a whole lot...or at all.

It's also 'Buy Nothing Day', or at least it has been in the past. I chose to observe that. For what it's worth...

but hey, in 9 years, that 11 cents will be 22 cents as per avg. stock gain in the market.

No one in their right mind is going to game on a laptop, unless they get one specifically made for gaming, and those are helluva expensive.

Wasn't Black Friday the day Abe Lincoln was shot?

Oh, but of course, shopping is more important than one of the greatest Americans...

Me either. I hit the streams of North Georgia on a fishing trip. It's a little tradition of mine to relax from turkey day and avoid the beckoning of She Who Must Be Obeyed to go shopping. This year, I missed a trip to the outlet malls in Commerce.

I was going to wait up for the Best Buy version of the $400 laptop which was a lot nicer than the Wal Mart. However, when I got there I found people literally camping out with tents, sleeping bags, etc. I decided it wasnt worth it, Im better off getting a used laptop (since all I need it to do is vpn into my home network when I am away).

Ah, Black Friday, the start of the best season of the year! I've always loved it. But, as for me, I wasn't shopping. I was on the other end, enjoying the increase in sales. I won't do my own shopping with any seriousness until the week before Christmas--when the REAL discounts kick in. "Black Friday" discounts are nothing compared to Christmas Eve sale prices!

Wasn't Black Friday the day Abe Lincoln was shot?

Not the November Black Friday. He was shot on April 14, 1865 and died the next day. ( http://www.encyclopedia.com/html/section/LincolnA_Presidency.asp )

THIS Black Friday gets its name because the day after Thanksgiving is typically when retailers go "into the black" (profitability) for the year. ( http://money.cnn.com/2005/11/24/news/economy/holiday_blackfridaypackage/ )

So yay to capitalism, and full speed ahead!
