It's Official! Canadian Liberals are completely insane.

Do you doubt me? Then take a look at this. ^_~

http://news.yahoo.com/s/prweb/20051124/bs_prweb/prweb314382_1

' (PRWEB) - OTTAWA, CANADA (PRWEB) November 24, 2005 -- A former Canadian Minister of Defence and Deputy Prime Minister under Pierre Trudeau has joined forces with three Non-governmental organizations to ask the Parliament of Canada to hold public hearings on Exopolitics -- relations with ?ETs.? '

Cool! Let's not worry about things like the Fermi Paradox, shall we? :)

'By ?ETs,? Mr. Hellyer and these organizations mean ethical, advanced extraterrestrial civilizations that may now be visiting Earth.'

And let's thank PRweb for helping out all the Canadians who don't get out enough to know what ETs are.

'On September 25, 2005, in a startling speech at the University of Toronto that caught the attention of mainstream newspapers and magazines, Paul Hellyer, Canada?s Defence Minister from 1963-67 under Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Prime Minister Lester Pearson, publicly stated: "UFOs, are as real as the airplanes that fly over your head." '

[innocently] So for how long has Mr. Hellyer been in the habit of seeing airplanes fiy over everybody's head whether they were there or not? o_O

But here's the winner...

' Mr. Hellyer went on to say, "I'm so concerned about what the consequences might be of starting an intergalactic war, that I just think I had to say something." '.

*chuckle*

Wow! You can just see Mr. Hellyer strap on his light saber in order to do battle with the Sith in order to stop this intergalactic war with nonexistent aliens can't you? :D But just where did he get the notion that an intergalactic war might start anyway? Perhaps he sensed a disturbance in the Force with his Jedi powers and decided that this somehow trumps all current knowledge?

'Hellyer revealed, "The secrecy involved in all matters pertaining to the Roswell incident was....'

Oooo! *Roswell*. He's the sort of person who believes in Roswell incidents....

*snicker* ^~^

In that case, perhaps I shouldn't inquire any further. After all, how could *anyone* dream of asking questions from the sort of person who believes in Roswell incidents? ;)

But isn't it a comfort to know that this is the sort of person who ends up in cabinets of the Canadian government anytime the Liberal party gets elected? ^_~

BWAHAHAHAHAHA! :D

Aw c'mon, Kryzmanistandlandia! You rate higher than *that*. :p

BTW, isn't it interesting that telling the truth about liberals qualifies as 'trolling'? :D

I guess they don't like it when someone questions authority? ^_~

I hate to rain on your parade (I mean, I hate the Liberals just as much as any other honest person), but a) this thing was posted before, b) your post was just a wee bit on the immature side, and c) belief in extraterrestrials doesn't necessarily make one a loony: see Carl Sagan. That was a nice burn you had on Kryzmanistandlandi, though.

Telling the truth about liberals is one thing,

Making fun of one wack-job and then saying an entire political party is at fault is another.

Meh. Didn't know about it being posted before or I wouldn't have bothered. That said, leaving aside the fact that I suspect Mr. Sagan was making an unjustified leap of faith in light of the sustained evidence that was current even in his day, let's just say that the UFOlogy implied with invoking the Roswell incident was not exactly the sort of thing Mr. Sagan approved of either. Or to put it another way, I agree with David Brin that there is no way the number of people who were supposed to have been involved would have kept something that hushhush in any democracy for a 60 year period.

A belief that alien lifeforms may exist is respectable but the invocation of conspiracy theory thinking that Mr. Hellyer publicly indulged in wasn't exactly my idea of mature or sane either and deserves as much open derision as people can give it.

In 1825, President John Quincy Adams made his first address to Congress. In this address, he proclaimed that the future of the US lay in space, that the US would man lighthouses in the sky, and that man would walk on the moon.

So, there's precedent for extravagent claims.

The way I see it, there need to be some protocols in place just in case we do happen to meet ETs. However, I agree that it's ludicrous to claim that they're already here.

Side note: It looks like it's only one Canadian Liberal involved here. One man does not a party policy make.

This is bushanomics here. I'm bush like. We already know that the Canadian Laberals are too Laberal. They were mean to President Bush when he came to visit them. They even gave him the finger. He's the President of the United States of America, you can't flip him off. These Canadian Laberals are are trying to legalize gay marriage and if that happens then the infection of uh... gayness will speard to ... America. And then we will have a gay America. I believe that Canada is the worst state. We should kick them out.

We're happy about that.
They were mean to President Bush when he came to visit them.
LOL.
They even gave him the finger.
LMAO.

Yeah we can.

Good, makes your country freer than it really is.
And then we will have a gay America.
Happy America?
I believe that Canada is the worst state. We should kick them out.Exactly how many countries actually got pissed off at America or how many people think America is the worst state?

Fair enough. But he's a wackjob who made it as both their Minister of Defense and Deputy Prime Minister at different points in his career and, while he's not exactly being shy about those connections, I don't see any of them saying he doesn't speak for them yet. Then again, in all fairness it's only been 48 hours so perhaps they're just slow to react or perhaps he still has a following they'd be reluctant to lose.

I suppose if I were nice I could just concentrate on Gomery but this amuses me and I'm willing to bet dollars to donuts that if it had been a prominent member of the Conservative Party's predecessors who had gone around saying things like this the Canadian press would be somewhat less respectful. >_>

Penterra,
I suppose some contigency planning would make sense but realistically if they come to us rather than we going to them then the fact of the matter is that their tech level is so above ours that the protocols of any peaceful contact would be whatever they want it to be without regard for us. @_@

No, but being a dumbass certainly does.

In that case 9 of 10 leftists on this MB and elsewhere qualify as trolls. :p

The very *liberal* eagerness that the Left has to dish derision out to others combined with their sensitive reluctance to receive derision in return when one of their own publicly says something this stupid never ceases to be amusing. :D
If any of you guys ever see a Liberal Party statement along the lines of "No, we don't believe in UFO crud or conspiracy theories of Mr. Hellyer's sort" please be sure to let me know by posting them here, OK? Some reassurance that the Liberal Party isn't stupid to buy into Mr. Hellyer's ravings about Roswell really would be appreciated. This *is* the party that made him their Deputy Prime Minister so I'm not sure I should take this for granted. ;)
