Earth Federation Government

If a single government someday administers the entire planet Earth, how should the administrative divisions be defined? What places belong together? What will be the nature of these divisions? Any thoughts on lower-level divisions?

Remember that there are a lot of things to deal with, including language, cultural/ethnic identity, natural boundaries, managable size, &c.

My ideas:

North America: panama and north, plus hawaii
South America: colombia and south
Europe: today's europe, extending southeast to istanbul, and everything north of the 48th parallel to the urals
Africa: Africa, excluding Libya and Egypt
Central Asia: CIS nations plus traditional middle east, india, libya, and egypt (probably lower-level regions would be split by arab, persian, and indian majorities)
East Asia: Pretty much everything east of the Urals except the CIS nations, plus most pacific islands
Australia: Boom.

I don't know what's worse... the thought of the infringement of a nation's sovereignty or the maze of red-tape that would have to be navigated before anything could get done!

Mmm... United Nations X100!

However, if such a beast were to arise, I think the world should be divided via means of gerrymandering (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerrymandering)!

If you're going big government (united world government being the pinnacle of that) at least make it fun and interesting!

Hm! Interesting new question! What parties do you think would organize to vie for control of the Earth?

A World Government should be a Holy Imperium with ME as it's God-Emperor!

His Imperial and Holy Majesty, God-Emperor Joshua I, Total Overlord of the Earth, King of Europe, Duke of Asia, Baron of Africa, Tsar of North America, Earl of South America, Sultan of the Middle East, Praetor of Australia, Viscount of Antartica, and the One God of the Earth

Nice isn't it!:)

Well there would certainly be a party based on "No World Government".

You'd probably be left with parties promoting world peace and equal standards of living for everyone and parties that want to expand to other planets and/or increase military power.

I'd probably take all of the Countries we have today but make them supposed "super-states." Things that are countries unto themselves but are united under a larger power.

If you did that, national identities wouldn't be weakened and people would be nostalgic for the days of sovereignty. No, nations need to be divided before they can be conquered.

The division that would make the World most pleasing to everybody would be to divide it into near autonomous Departments, each with different politics. Muslim and Christian theocracies are a must, as are pure capitalism, pure communism, some sort of socialist mix between the two, and an anarchist department. At the age of 16, you can decide which department you want to live in. :)

What if the world soon becomes a province?
