Moscow - A Russian lawyer who says the US animated television satire The Simpsons has caused moral harm to his son plans to petition the European court of human rights after a Russian court rejected his case for the show to be removed from prime-time viewing slots.

The lawyer, Igor Smykov, charged that the popular programme, syndicated in many countries around the world, spread "propaganda of violence, cruelty, drugs and homosexuality", but a spokesperson for the Moscow court that heard his case confirmed it was rejected.

Smykov, quoted by the RIA-Novosti news agency, said he would take his case to the European court of human rights in Strasbourg.

"I think I will be understood there," the agency quoted him as saying.

Who gets that for a kid and is like, "Well, I didn't know it was going to be bad..."
It's like getting a video game called, "Tax Evasion!" and then suing because it's anti-government.

from the article:Last March, lawmakers from the ultra-nationalist Liberal Democratic Party tried but failed to have the culture ministry ban broadcast of The Simpsons on Russian television.

There was a case similliar to that in Russia when a woman tried to sue the simpsons producers in Russia for influencing bad values on her child or something like that.

Wow, due to that first sentences lack of grammar (I know it's quoted) I completely misread it as -
"Moscow - A Russian lawyer says the US animated television satire The Simpsons has caused moral harm to his son's plans to petition the European court of human rights after a Russian court rejected his case for the show to be removed from prime-time viewing slots"

yea it sounded strange. There should be a comma after son.and before who, otherwise it still won't make complete sense.

Anyway, if he wins his case then I think the Russian state should prosecute him for neglect or some crime relating to abuse of children.

Complaining about the moral value of the simpsons is sooo 1992. Where's Barbara Bush when you need her?

To be picky, the headline "America Violates Human Rights" is incorrect in this case, as it would be Russia who (somehow? By letting the Simpsons be broadcast too early?) violated Smykovs rights.

Maybe so, but this guy is a lawyer, remember? What kind of a settlement could you get from Mother Russia? A few rubles, maybe? From the U.S., you can get dollars!

Yes, but he's not going after America, he's going after Russia. And they won't settle this. And anyway, this case will never be accepted by the ECHR.

He's just being silly... :p

(It reminds me of another case that wasn't accepted - the plaintiff argued that her home state was violating her human rights by not providing her with adequate protection from alien abductions.)

If I was the Russian Justice system I wouldn't award those people much either. I mean Mother Russia has not been doing so well when it comes to an economy. I'm sure the judges sympathise.
