My Family Was Assaulted Tonight

Well, I can't believe it, but it actually happened to me. One of "those" stories. My brother was hosting an underage party at my house, it was largely a pleasant affair. My friends and I worked as security, checking who went in, making sure nobody jumped any fences etc.

It would have been a great evening were it not for the end. After most of the people had left, a few guests remained on the front lawn, with myself and three friends looking on.

Suddenly, a group of roughly ten guys came up, ages roughly 19-23. Immediately we saw that there was going to be a problem, but stupidly none of us did anything like call the police or take people inside.

Lo and behold, the guys started to purposely threaten people. On of them continually jumped on my friend's car. By this time we knew that things were getting out of control. One of my friends, trained in Ju-Jitsu approached them and asked them to stop damaging the vehicle. Immediately the men went beserk, they pepper-sprayed both my Ju-Jitsu friend and another, before running at us.

(I thank God for taking Kung-Fu, which allowed me to escape unharmed)

My Ju-Jitsu friend, coughing from the spray, called the police on his mobile. One of the guys punched the phone out of his hand, then punched him again on the back of the head.

By now I had reached the door of the house, fortunately protected by a security door. I unlocked it and we raced inside. One man ripped our wooden letterbox up and threw it after us, another rammed a chair into my window (protected by a security screen, no real damage except to the glass.)

Once the security door was locked behind us, the cowards immediately bolted into ready-and-waiting cars and drove off.

We phoned the cops, of course, but they have so far ONLY DRIVEN BY ONCE NOT EVEN BOTHERING TO FUCKING STOP!

I can officially say that the repeal of anti-gun legislation is looking mighty appealing to me.

If you have a sword, what's the need for a gun? Chopping someone to bits or decapitating them is a lot more badass than shooting them from 50 feet away.

I've had similar things happen, but nothing with that many guys. Pepper spray is hard to defend against, but fortunately it's not completly disabling. Tasers are another matter entirely. :(

Any idea what their problem was or where they came from?

Any idea what their problem was or where they came from? If I was to guess, I'd say they were drunk and looking for a fight. The presence of waiting cars would suggest to me that they were planning for conflict.

I hate to say this also, because I don't want to be branded as a racist, but the guys were Aboriginals, which generally infers a poor standard of living, little real education and frustration/boredom in bucketloads.

I have been in a few fights. I have even been outnumbered in a couple. Generally speaking, the shorter the fight, the better I do. If I can manage to break a nose, or squeeze some testicles or smash a kneecap in the first few seconds, they think twice. Buys me enough time to disable another punk. If they run off in the first minute or so, I'm going to be okay. If not, well... I heal quickly. :(

It ain't really expensive.

This is exactly why I got an extendible police baton. I used to carry a knife, but I really don't want it to come down to that. I'd rather bash someone then knife 'em. Between my karate training and always carrying my baton, I feel like I'm reasonably safe.

Besides, this guy I know pulled a knife on someone, and the guy pulled an axe on him, and his buddy pulled out a sword. So you never know who's ganna have a bigger blade.

Aye, I like this set-up- nonlethal, yet a fighting baton, in the right hands, can easily incapacitate a foe.

You might want to be careful about pulling out weapons in these sorts of fights- they may have weapons that they weren't bothering to pull out yet. The last thing you want to do is pull out a knife only to look down the barrel of a gun.

*sigh* Amazing how assholish some people can be.

So, why haven't you called the police and demand that they make a report of the incident? Give them descriptions of the people involved, the vehicles they escaped in, and make sure anyone physically assaulted is taken to the hospital, examined, and make another report to the police there. Contact the insurance agencies that have policies on the car damaged and the house that was attacked. Heck, file a home-owners claim for any lawn damage. Raise a big enough stink and something will have to be done. Get to it!!

I've had encounters that don't even qualify as robbery attempts, but they do count as harassment and intimidation (attempted). Police rarely look into such matters, unless you happen to be a rich, prominent constituent.

The last time was a small crowd of teenagers (what some of you would call chavs) who, upon noticing that I was smoking a cigarette, asked me if I would let them all have one. I said, "No." and I kept walking, whereupon they followed me, making idle threats as they got closer.

One moment I was walking along, and the next moment, I was turned around in their direction, and the gun was already at eye level.

I've seen them from time to time, in the same spot. They leave me alone.

You called em cowards, but you used your vaunted Kung-Fu skills to flee into the house and hide behind a security door.

Now, I've had absolutely no training in martial arts and I think even I could manage that......But then I'd be too busy actually fighting back to use such Eastern wiles.

And if you couldn't get to your sword in time, where do you get the idea you could get to a gun any faster?

There were ten guys and one of me. In a real fight, you don't suddenly become an ass-whooping angel of death, it's usually messy and very painful, going against 10-1 odds is not only stupid, it's downright suicidal.

BTW, I "used my vaunted Kung-Fu skills" to ensure all my family and friends got in the house before locking the door. Always make sure those you care about are safe first.

If this stupid state allowed concealed carry, then;
a) working as a security dude would be a lot easier and
b) the punks wouldn't have had a chance to start anything, in my experience whenever somebody has the gun, the other people start paying REAL close attention

First, let me say that I am thankful nobody was seriously injured.

Second. This is one of many cases in which I am thankful that I am an American and that I own a gun. Inside my room, I have a 30-06 rifle, a SKS rifle (nt assault rifle you pinko commie), a double-barreled 12 gauge, a 22/20 over-under, and a few pistols inside my house and all the long guns are less than 5 feet from my bed. It is an unplesant fact that violent crimes happen, which is why I choose to arm myself. In countries like Australia, it seems like crimes have happened more often since they outlawed guns. JMHO, guns kill as many criminals as it threatens the lives of innocent people. I, as a responsible gun owner, lock my guns in a safe inaccessable to anyone I don't want it to and train myself to use these weapons effectively ad correctly. I also train in the unarmed arts so I don't have to kill unnecessarily. I believe that this whole incident shows what happens when a country revokes rights of the populous where the right is set in place to keep the country safe and civilised through deterrence.

That's all I have to say.

Most have missed that the encounter ended with no one seriously hurt or killed. That is a good thing. Of course, it would have been better if the punks had been arrested, or at least hurt enough not to do such things in the future.
Oh, forget about Tasers, thier effect ends seconds after the weapon stops cycling. I watched one inmate take several cans of LE 10 OC, 4 Taser shots, pepperball laucher, and was about to get hit with the 37mm baton gun before he gave up. He got bored.
All that said, OC works longer and better than a Taser, the Taser will instantly stop the aggression, but will allow it to resume. The OC takes longer, but lasts up to 45 minutes afterwards, or longer.
Or, you could move to a free state, get a CCW, and go from there.:D

Sorry that happened. Get a hunting sling-shot. A good one with a scope only costs about 22 USD and I don't believe that you need a liscene. They will hurt a person...very badly (you can buy pellets or use stones). I have never had to use it or martial arts on anybody (well, I have shot berries at people, they don't hurt).

And if they're the ones with a gun? After all, if it's easier for one person to acquire and carry a gun, it's logical that others would have an easier time too.

Doesn't work that way in the US. The majority of people who commit violent felonies are unarmed.

http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/guns.htm
During the offense that brought them to prison, 15% of State inmates and 13% of Federal inmates carried a handgun, and about 2%, a military-style semiautomatic gun.

http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/abstract/wuvc01.htm
Approximately half of all robberies, about a quarter of all assaults, and roughly a twelfth of all rapes/sexual assaults involved an armed assailant.

If you are black, there's a 98 percent chance that your assailant is black, and very high odds that your assailant is armed in some way, and that you will be harmed. If you're not black, the statistics are really skewed towards your attacker being unarmed (much further than the averages would indicate).

Well, shit happens. At least no-one was hurt. A gun might have helped to scare them off, I don't know. If your acting as security, you could have had some kind of weapons yourself, not handguns, but something blunt... Having twenty guns in the house only helps to repel zombie infestations.

What annoys me more is the way the police acted. The reason I think everybody shouldn't have guns is that no-one is responsible enough. If the police actually WORKED there would be no anti-gun debates. Give more money to the police or something...
