Well I just learned today, that I have been accepted into Arizona State(YAY!), now I have just under a month to get to get all the lovely paperwork done. Now I've already submitted a FASFA(well actually my dad did it for me), I still haven't heard back from them, even though it's been over 2 months since the submission.

Now I know I'm going to take out a Stafford loan, but I'm unsure as to what to do now, should and where can I apply again? Should I just wait to hear back from from FASFA? Sorry for this, but I'm a college nOOb.

Good Job getting into ASU. I know a few people there.

My advice...Make your parents pay for tuition. :D

(sorry, I don't have anything constructive to say)

Well, now I am supposed to hate you.

GO U OF A!

Now that that is over with. The FAFSA took me about 3 months to get back, that tells you what loans you are approved for. After that, you go through the school website or through a private lender, pick a lender and fill out their paperwork. They should send you some sort of confirmation notice (I got one for my work-study loan). After that, you kind of just sit back and relax. The lender should disperse the funds to the University on their own, and a credit should show up on your Bursar's account. The credit will be applied towards tuition.

Click here (http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/) and find out what the status of your application is. Go to the "FAFSA Follow up" section on the right and click through the "Check status of a submitted FAFSA" link.

If your application has been processed by the Department of Education, then your next step is to contact the Financial Aid office at ASU.

Good luck!

You're getting alot of advice telling you to relax. Don't. You're getting alot of advice telling you to look at their website. Don't. If you are worried, if you feel like they're taking too long, you need to call and stay on the phone until you get someone who can help you (which will probably take several hours). The people over at Direct Loans are, to an individual, either rude, lazy, or functionally retarded.FAFSA applications get lost. Money just somehow never gets dispersed. In the worst case, a cahsiers check for nearly $20,000 to pay off a loan sat on a supervisior's desk for so long that it no longer covered the interest that was being piling up. Call.

Yeah Tucscon's a lousy shithole.

Can I say that on Nationstates?

One of the worst things about U of A getting smashed by us yesterday is that they have to go back there

Well, at least we have a more interesting city than ASU does.

how much is tuition? could you just work part time and pay it yourself? I was just wondering because, tuition some places is only like $4000 a semester, quite easy to make working part time, although it would require living with your parents a while longer.

I don't believe in taking out loans at all, if you can help it, it is bad financial planning to start your adult life in debt.

Have you applied for scholorships? every little bit helps. check out local companies, esp ones that you have relatives working for.;)

that's funny I lived there for 2 years and heard the same thing about Phoenix.:p

I liked it, it was better than where I live now, and U of A has pretty colors and that's all that really matters right?:D

Sheesh and I thought we had it bad in England. We just apply to one organisation for tuition fees (the government, indirectly through the Local Education Authority - LEA or, in Northern Ireland, the Library Board, at least I think that's what it's called <dunno about the rest of Ireland) and one organisation for a loan for living expenses (the Student Loans Company). They both take too long to respond even if you applied well before the deadline for applications, but at least we don't have to mess about finding private sponsors and stuff.

Downside (apart from the time it takes for replies) is that, unless you get a bursary for accomodation, it works out at less then £40 a week (yes it works out at a lot more in American/Canadian $, but remember stuff is way more expensive in the UK than those 2 countries). Also, the forms are confusing and they're really picky about stuff. The slightest thing and they moan.

Things might be a lot more difficult from next year though, as the system will change and it seems like a lot of poorer students will either not be able to attend uni or will not be able to continue attending. This government is trying to destroy the Higher Education system
